ProgPower VI line-up preview (not really)...

And of course...once Evergrey left they stage, they took everyone with them. and left Rage with a half empty building. You can't bat .1000 all the time I guess.
Just to clarify, my comment was not a criticism. I was just pointing out that I was unaware of Rage, in respect to their body of work.

That also proves that I have a unique setting and I have to judge bands differently sometimes. I have no doubt that Evergrey can headline one night in the future and pack the place out. On the reverse side, they haven't been able to do anything more than be an opening act elsewhere in the States.
Evergrey does indeed have an unusual relationship with your audience. If I had to guess, I believe it goes back to PPII. By the time they took the stage, they had said "Hello", shook hands, posed for a picture and had a beer with everyone in attendance. When they actually took the stage, I believe everyone felt as if they were watching one of their friend's bands.

I actually asked Henrik, in an interview, about how incredibly accessible they are as a band. I was curious as to whether it's a natural outgrowth of their collective personalities or whether it's a conscious decision to be that accessible. He said, it's a bit of both. whatever it is, it's clearly made an impact.

This is what I've always used to gauge a band's popularity. Though occasionally, I get get surprised. For instance, I would have never guessed that Rage would have warranted a #5 and Therion a #4. It's for that same reason that I'm always puzzled when I hear someone on this board say that Running Wild should headline the festival. I don't think I've ever seen a single Running Wild post on another board.

Zod
Why shouldn't Running Wild headline? They've been around at least twenty years and have the talent and legacy to do so. They received accolades here in the States in the 80's when they were on Noise Records. I'm sure a lot of the bands other people wished for are not always "buzz" bands, either.

Keep in mind, what I think is irrelevant to whether they will or won't headline. However, I would suspect if they did, they'd end up in a similar situation to Rage, where two thirds of the crowd has split before they finish their third song. As I mentioned in another post, my perception of those bands whose music I'm not familair with, is based largely on the amount of chatter I see about them on the boards I frequent. Aside from the occasional post about them here, I've never seen a post about them, a comment on a new release, a review, tour news, interviews, etc. Based soley on that, I would guess that there wouldn't be a ton of interest.

I agree. Running Wild is pretty much Rage II. A band with a long history but a limited following. Although Rage actually deserved better than they've gotten from the metal community. Running Wild, to my ears, is consistently mediocre. Running Wild on top of the Progpower bill wouldn't sell me a ticket.

Pretty cool...maybe replace a few of them with like Mercenary, Magistral, or maybe even Sentenced (not sure if they are progpower material....but i love them)

Only if Iced Earth had Barlow on Vocals. I cant STAND Ripper Owens, he ruined Judas Priest, and it took him 1 album to completely ruin IE.

I like both vocalist, but I would love to hear what Barlow would have done with The Glorious Burden. It would've been cool for IE to release the Barlow recordings with some sort of special edition.

I really do believe they are capable of headlining. I'd love to see them get their chance. Even if they didn't close Sat. night, Fri. night would be just as good. Why don't they deserve the shot?

Dude, he answered that question in his post, which you quoted.

Barlow is my favorite vocalist of all-time. So I get where you're coming from. However, I absolutely loved "The Glorious Burden". Would I have liked it more if Barlow had sung on it? Odds are very good that I would have. However, Tim did a fantastic job on it, and hits every last note of it live.

According to Jon, Matt's heart just wasn't in it, and the vocals sounded like crap.

As I said, it's only my perception, and it doesn't really matter what I think. If Glenn thinks they're a worthy headliner, and terms can be agreed upon, I'm sure he'll make it happen. However, from my point of view, I just don't think that the average ProgPower attendee has any interest in sitting through 90 minutes of Running Wild at the end of the evening.

Once again, if they're so popular, where are all the discussions about them on the net? Where are the interviews? The album reviews? When have they toured here last? Generally, when a band is big enough to headline PP, you see them being discussed on every Metal forum you go to. that isn't the case with RW.

Zod

Zod I totally agree with you on the fact that Barlowe is my favorite vocalist, no one puts more emotion and energy into their voice than him.

I dont think that it was because his vocals sounded bad on the recording, I think it was he left to do something to help our country, but I dont remeber for sure. Also I think that unrelease of that copy had to due with the fact that Schaffer was just not satisfied with the vocals.

Now that I've seen most of you guys' lists and I have an idea of what everyone wants to see, I shall give you my thoughts.

Friday :

Persuader
Sylvan
Pagan's Mind
Masterplan
Blind Guardian

Saturday :

Riverside
Shadow Gallery
Tribuzy
Mercenary
Evergrey

So? Why do they have to be the topic of everyone's conversation? Please, I'm not trying to be surly. I'm just making a case for a band that is respected highly in Europe, but needs more exposure here. I believe they did tour here briefly in '85 with Motley Crue, but they got kicked off the tour because they upstaged the Crue too often. That's one of the main reasons for getting them on PPVII. Because they haven't been here forever. Check out some of their albums. Blazon Stone, Under Jolly Roger, Masquerade, The Rivalry. They are a great band and deserve a shot!

Someone mentioned Freedom Call as one of the headliners of ProgPower. I honestly, don't see them deserving a higher spot than a third, imo.

Regarding Running Wild... Okay... They're good indeed and they're a band that deserves to be at ProgPower. But... headlining? o_O
