Hey friends,
Do yourself a favor and spend 2mn checking this, especially the little script the guy created : http://www.thesafemac.com/arg/
Since it is very difficult to create malware or viruses for osx due to the system characteristics (closed and as sandboxed as possible, at least for legit and app store Apps) and the integrated protection, hackers try to have people install fake apps or extensions, or have you install them not seeing it (with very fast popup windows during an install), or adwares. The site owner says it has been very frequent the last few months.
I got a weird case of computer freezing due to too little memory available. I found in the activity monitor "installer" which is "installer.mac" was eating 9Go of RAM therefore overloading my computer in some way. Clicking on it gave me the name of a folder, which I googled and found this website explaining it is one of the 4 or 5 adwares possible.
I spent 5mn removing every file manually, thanks to the guide, and I ran the script and discovered I was also hiding an adware somewhere, somehow ! The script is light and runs immediately, so just check it !
