Prometheus Sucked

I heard the name Prometheus out of the blue, just realized now it's related to the Alien movies

Holy fuck now I have to watch it but I'm afraid of you guys who tell it's disappointing. Visually it seems awesome though

It was pretty bad. All of the characters sucked, I didnt care about a single one.
The plot was retarded, as were the scientists.
Only redeeming factor were the visuals. And visuals cannot carry a movie.
epic fail.

and lol at the space snake and getting close to it. Moron.

Saw it today.

Confusing plot, left more questions then answers. Retarded manuscript. This movie was ok but it could have been really really good. 3/5 for me.

And how disturbing was that abortion scene, in a good way :)

I've read both good and bad reviews of this movie, mostly good though. Probably won't see it in the cinema but I know I will get it on bluray as soon as I can. Read that you probably get more out of this movie if you've recently seen the first Alien, and probably even more if you're a big fan. Sounds like it's right up my alley! :)

Man we need like a spoilers thread so those of us who have seen it can discuss the plot details haha. People keep telling me it left questions for them and then say things like they didn't understand the first scene (I've had to explain that scene to everyone I saw the movie with). The only thing that really made no sense to me was when Fifield returned but that is all I will say.

Edit: Also yes the characters were a little heavy handed or dull but I wouldn't at all say the movie sucked. And I'm sure H.R. Giger fans went ape shit for those interior shots.

Hard.

Its only saving graces were the visuals and the acting. The script and plot, hell even the editing have got to be some of the most disappointing in a long time. Anyone else caught this yet? It's like if the decoration was removed it would be a downright terrible film. Characters that contradict themselves constantly, events that make no sense and totally illogical decisions every other scene.

Not surprised, the Alien series just always seemed too sci-fi for me. X-Files was more plausible and induced more pant-shitting :D

To the people saying that it's better when you connect it to the Alien films - Prometheus is pretty much The Phantom Menance to me in that regard, it massively diluted the universe's qualityby taking lots of what made the Alien films great and changing it. When you watch Alien for the first time and you see the space jockey, it looks alien, completely inhuman. Oh no, wait, it's actually beautiful squidward in a suit.

I digress, I tried to watch the film on its own merits, and that is where it failed. So double disappointment here, the only thing that I still like about it was the abortion scene. That was great. Pretty much every single other thing made no sense. I'll stop now.

why are you so sure your interpretation is the correct one? i've heard too many possible explanations for it to really set my mind on any single one.

maybe from the second page on, this thread could include spoilers (a warning would be put to the thread title) so we could discuss it? or out of interest, maybe you could PM me your theory if people don't want spoilers in this thread :p

I actually enjoyed Avatar very very much, because I simply knew the story itself was not going to be relevant (you know, bad guys vs ecolo good guys) and decided to just watch it with an open mind, and if you stick to the visual acid trip it is, and consider it just a CGI masterpiece, it's awesome. It was also the first movie I watched in 3D, and I really remember being blown away by the aesthetics of the first hour of the movie ! As dumb as it seems, I really felt emotional just because of the depth of the visuals in the first part of the movie ! I sort of passed through the fact that we are more and more difficult to impress with technology, and more or less realized how far we already are in this field.

Reading all your comments, I think I'm gonna adopt the same attitude with this movie

thats like listening to nickelback for their production

Unfortunatly, it really did suck..
There were so many blatant plotholes and the dialogue and characters were crap..
To much unnecessary exposition and not enough needed exposition..

I love Alien.. and Aliens.. Alien3's Assembly Cut saves it a bit, but it's far from perfect.. dislike Alien: Resurrection..
AvP sucks.. AvP:R suck so bad that the first AvP looked good..

I don't get how that many involved in a movie could let the mistakes go to print..
Visually it was stunning..
The score didn't fit..
Really wanted to like this movie..
