I don't know if I'm the only one who has this problem, but I kept on getting shitloads of those popup windows from the imbedded Messenger in Windows XP. And it fucking pissed me off to no end. So if you hate that shit, too, here's how to disable it. This is taken right from http://www.nuklearpower.com/, where they have a rather funny webcomic based on old-school NES Final Fantasy, which ruled (as you can see by Black mage to my left there).

It's a kind of ad that uses a service in Windows NT, 2000 and XP which is always on by default. This means that the ads can even get you if you're offline. Joy!

But you can make it stop by disabling the service that it uses on your machine. Here's how.

1) Right click on My computer

2) Select Manage

3) Open the Services and Applications area

4) Select Services

5) Double-click Messenger (it's on the right side)

6) Find Service Status--bottom half--and select Stop

7) In the Startup Type menu, select Manual

8) Click Apply, well I did because I'm paranoid, then OK

What you have now down is disabled Windows Messenger. The only drawback is that you won't get confirmation after sending a document to a networked printer or the like.
