Symphony X
The Good hey, its Symphony X, its all good. The highlight of the show was Russell. This was the sixth time Ive seen SX, and Id say it was his best performance.
The Bad they only played five songs; Inferno, Wicked, Awakenings, Communion and The Oracle, and Of Sins and Shadows. Any way you slice it, this is not long enough. Ive been to hundreds of concerts in my life, and I cant remember an opening band being limited to a thirty minute set.
The Ugly - the sound guy did a horrible job. At different parts during the show, each of the instruments was too loud in the mix.
Queensryche
The Good Operation: Mindcrime. While this was not performed with the same intensity, passion and flawless execution that it was on the Building Empires tour, it was delivered in such a manner as to show why QR is the father of this genre. And I was once again reminded, no CD will ever top Operation: Mindcrime.
The Bad the song selection. Hey, I understand why they need to play songs off Tribe. However, why do they need to play the other crap? Is there someone in the audience who would prefer to hear Hit the Black over Walk in the Shadows? Is there someone in the audience who would prefer to hear The Best I Can over Take Hold of the Flame? If there is, could someone kindly point them out to me, so that I could drag them outside and kick the crap out of them, so that Queensryche could stop playing these shit songs live?
The Ugly Roads to Madness. When they finally treated us to a bit of classic Ryche, they decide its a good idea for 2004 Queensryche to change musically, what the vastly superior 1984 Queensryche did. Please! This is the equivalent of Metallica doing an updated version of For Whom the Bell Tolls for "St. Anger".
Two small annoyances.
It annoyed me that QR didnt have the class to thank their opening band. Im not sure Ive ever seen a headliner choose not to thank their support act.
Can QR get a guitar player who isnt visually distracting? This guy couldnt have possibly looked more out of place on stage with this band. Granted, a bands image isnt all that important. Hell, I love Symphony X, and when they take the stage they look like someone just woke them up and that theyre wearing last nights clothes.
