Is utter shit, I can't believe the hype that surrounded this flop of an album. What a fucken let down. I was hoping that Queensryche had one last good album in them, but I guess that was hoping for a little to much.

I just got a copy and while so far it hasn't hit the "utter shit" stage, it certainly hasn't hit the quality of the first Mindcrime.

On initial listen I am regarding it with indifference. An inoffensive release may be best way to describe it, which given the hype in certain quarters is a bit of a let down.

Given the hype? The vast majority of (stupid) metalheads worldwide had officially declared that this album will be a huge crap, since the moment that the rumor that QR are working in a Mindcrime sequel was spread.
Also seriously, people should stop comparing it to the first Mindcrime. It's not only unfair for the album, it is also dumb.

lol

no

it is dumb of the band to release it as "mindcrime II" if they DON'T want people to compare it to the first

i mean christ as a continuation of the first it IS going to be compared to it, and RIGHTLY so

The first Mindcrime was released 18 years ago, the band's main composer at that time, is absent now, QR members are changed as persons and musicians, and it is right to compare the 2 albums just because they have the same freaking words in the title and the story is continued? Geez
This album must be judged only for how its OWN music is, not for how the music of its prequel was.

Any work by Queensryche is going to be compared to O.M, especially if it's called O.M. II. Just like King Diamond Abigail and Abigail II : The Revenge.

Whatever Queensryche do they will always be remembered for O.M. and that will be the point of reference for the obvious comparison that will take place.

If I am dumb to compare a bands new work against their back catalogue then so be it, but this type of compassion happens every time someone gets hold of a new release (excluding debut records obviously).

I'm not saying it's dumb to compare a band's albums, but it's dumb to judge an album's musical value, by comparing it to a previous one saying "Well it's not utter shit, but it's not first Mindcrime either". So are you saying "Promised Land is brilliant but not Mindcrime", "Empire is great but not Mindcrime" etc? Many also say "Mindcrime is incredible but it's not Rage For Order" (and there is some right in what they are saying, although i disagree). And, seriously, tell me 1 person in the world that thought that this album is gonna be as good (or nearly good) as the first Mindcrime

"I'm American" was a terrible track. I hope the rest of the album is better.

I actually did like Tribe quite a lot, and to those who say "judge it on its own", tell the band not to title it OM2 then. It's supposed to be compared to the original or they wouldn't have given it that title.

I am saying exactly what I have said. While I don't think it's utter shit like the OP stated, it's not particularly good (on initial listen, however I get the feeling it will be a grower), then as a point of reference I compared it to O.M. which most people with an interest in the band will have heard (and do the same)

When you have heard it, come back and post your opinion of it and let’s see if you make any reference to O.M.

A reference to O:M is different from a comparison with it. I've heard the album 1 time, which means that it is impossible to have a clear opinion about it (except for the style which reminds O:M of course, and the fact that i got lots of chills in some moments), and i'm gonna listen to it a lot only when it will be released (reading the lyrics etc).

See even here you are comparing the two "which reminds O:M of course". The style of O.M II is exactly that of the original, which the band I believe have done intentionally. Of course you can have a clear opinion of it once you have heard it. It's people that have not heard it that really shouldn't pass an opinion (on the music not the general idea behind the idea of a sequel etc)

Especially when it comes to Queensryche, 1 time is far from enough. Their first 6 releases (except the ep perhaps) are all "growers" (or have lots of grower songs). The first time i heard "Rage For Order" i thought it's just another typical album.

Meh, i'm loving it. It's quite weak for 2 tracks in the middle. But otherwise I have no complaints.

Lots of pissing and moaning because it's not something that it was never going to be...
