Hey Matt, I was wondering what effects you use on your voice? Such as reverbs, delays etc.

If you could specify what you use, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Matt and the band are buried deep working on their new album, I believe. I would not expect an answer on this anytime in the near future.

I'm sure we'd all agree that a new album is more important than them hanging out here with us, as much as we all like it when they do! :p

Sorry, I've been on vacation!

Nothing special in terms of effects. I like a single delay (no feedback) behind the vocal, of somewhere between 200-250 milliseconds or so, just to thicken it up and add a little depth. Maybe roll off the high end on the delay return so it doesn't poke out of the mix and just tucks in there. I also like a little reverb, though not too much these days or it will sound super 80s to most people. Maybe just a good-sounding plate to give a little space to the voice. Of course this depends on the song; a slower ballad can sound good with a nice, long reverb on the voice. Whatever works.

Another cool trick is to use a stereo harmonizer-type box or plugin, and pitch shift one side up +9 or so and the other side down -9 or so. Send the vocal to that, and blend a little of that back into the mix. Not too much, or you'll get that super-chorusy Ozzy kind of effect, but just a touch can add some nice size to the vocal. I use a free plugin called MDA Detune for this.

Of course other reverbs and delays will be automated for certain sections of songs, like an echo at the end of certain lines or more reverb on long screams, etc.

Hope that helps!
