Hey guys, I've been wondering lately about what everyone does in this scenario:

you tracks some drums
you get samples of each drum
you have room mics and close mics
you're replacing/adding those sample to the recording of said drums

when cutting your samples do you leave the room mics in the cut up sample?
do you just make samples of the close mics? do you pre process them, or do them raw?

I'm curious because on pretty much every session i do, i have samples with room mic tracks and i wonder if i should cut the samples with room mics printed to the sample.

Depends if you're going to leave the room mics in the full mix or not. I'd prefer to use the room mic tracks rather than just added to the samples.

I only keep room mics in for some parts of the kit when creating samples, but not all. I make raw and processed samples. Most of the time I use the processed ones to save processing power later, but I like to have the option of raw.

I've never made my own samples, but if I was to make them..

Original Sample
Processed Sample (compression + EQ)
Sample with Room / OH
Processed sample with Room / OH.

4 samples per "sample", but i guess it gives a lot of scope to work with.
