creepy, I was thinking about this exact same question as I was driving home from work today, and how it would make a good thread here.

Anyway the answer I came too is that I'm a completist if all the albums are worthwhile.. if they suck, whats the point? However, being a fan of a band is likely to make me a little more lenient on an album and purchase it if its merely mediocre, just to be a completist, but put out several bad albums, and thats it.. CUT OFF!

I'm both, I suppose. But yeah, if a band starts to suck (In Flames, Opeth, AMorphis), I'll cut 'em off and stop wasting money on them.

But there are some bands that I choose to have only one album simply because it's their best, such as FLeurety, Waylander, GOlden Dawn, and Cephalic Carnage

im a bit of both, like it was mentioned before it all depends on the band, theres a few bands whenever i see something of theres ill grab it straight away. atm im trying to expand my collection as much as possible with new bands so if i have one of a bands good albums im not to fussed

Of certain bands, yes. Not very many though, probably only 5 bands do I strive to have the complete collection of. Most other bands I'm good with their best effort and that's it.

not at all. I buy only what's good to my ears. Best exemple would be Neurosis; they are my favorite band but I couldn't care less for the first 2 albums.

Depends on the artist, usually it's only for bands that I become overwhelmed or hopelessly infatuated with, and even then my desire to have everything with their name gets thrown off by things like limited releases (Agalloch, Ulver, etc.) or gigantic catalogues (Crimson, Zappa). I do make it a point to own or at least hear every release of quality by bands I admire.

A completist by accident rather than design! :p my favourites bands I get into and just have to hear more and more...between Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and say Whitesnake or Rainbow or ManOwaR I think I could comfortably say I've got 100 albums.
