Do people normally master the track as awhole? ( with drums , bass, guitar all together )
or track by track seperately..
and normally what do people do when it comes to mastering? i did some research before but i would like to hear you guy's opinion.
Thanks <3

Yes, master the track as a whole. Though some professional mastering engineers may request the stems for songs so they can tweak certain instruments to work better when being mastered. So, in other words, it's more simple to get the mix sounding great and using your mastering tools just to bring the volume of the song up to commercial levels.

I like mastering with stems at first...because I'm not the best at mastering. It gives you more control over the end product without having to color the whole mix to notch out a little or add some.

sounds like you have mixing and mastering totally mixed up

mixing is the process the assembling the individual tracks into a single piece of music...and in the process usually entails EQ, compression, reverb, and other effects

mastering, really, is just the process of preparing a final mix for duplication. part of this process can be to tweak the final mix to sound that much better, and it just depends on what the ME thinks will enhance the mix they've been given.

Technically, what you're calling 'mastering' here is Pre-Mastering... mastering is the process of preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the final mix to a data storage device (the master); the source from which all copies will be produced (such as pressing, duplication or replication).

the quick/easy but politically incorrect answer you are most likely looking for is izotope ozone on the master bus.
