R.I.P. Lemmy Kilmister

Glad I had the opportunity to see them live. Loudest thing on Earth and surely the beginning of my hearing loss. RIP.

how is that going dude, if you don't mind me asking? i thought about asking you this in the question thread, ockham mentioned it a few weeks back

i saw motorhead live at wacken and they were shit because the sound was completely fucked, i assume it wasn't their fault. someone else told me they saw them on a separate occasion at wacken and had the same problem. in conclusion, fuck wacken

He must have smoked a lot of cigarettes over the years.

I was hanging out at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in Hollywood in April and thought of him there. I didn't see him of course.

It's terrible man. I've had severe hyperacusis and tinnitus since late 2013. In the last few months I've been lucky to have one day a week where I can actually listen to music. Cheers heavy metal.

I saw Swans live and my hearing is definitely worse for having done that, but I have no regrets about it.

Fucking hell man, I'm sorry to hear that. I damaged my hearing in a club in 2002 and have had severe tinnitus and high frequency loss since then. I can't stand in front of a live band without earplugs these days or I'll run from the room with my hands over my ears. Not looking after my hearing when I was younger is my biggest regret for sure.

Wait until you really damage your hearing and then the regret will come.

I use to go to plenty of shows up until like the end of 2015 or so. I never wore earplugs, but now I'm sorta thinking I should start taking better care. Don't have tinnitus or hearing damage (at least not severe) but don't want it either. Even listening to music with earplugs too loud can cause that and fuck it while getting old might as well get old comfortably.

Also, RIP Lemmy.

I have already really damaged my hearing. It isn't nearly what it used to be and I suffer from ringing in my ears, sensitivity to certain types of noise and headaches because of it. My employment in the past has involved working on various extremely entertainment offerings, including around 200 live shows.

That said, Swans was by far the loudest show that I have attended. I don't think that standing on the right at the stage and seeing them in a cramped indoor venue helped at all. My right ear was very near some of their equipment and that one especially has been far worse than the other ever since then.

Like I said, I don't regret seeing them or doing the work that I do because it's something that I personally enjoy and excel at, although I've been promoted several times since then and no longer have as much direct contact with the loud environments that I used to.

We talked about that a while ago (years) and I think we were in agreement that you listen to your music too loud at home. I do try to avoid that, especially when using headphones.

Cassette tapes can never reach a sound quality and level that damages the ears in any serious way and I'd be lucky to see a good band play here in Perth, so I think my hearing is pretty much safe.
But years back I had an inner ear infection that rendered me practically deaf to the degree that I couldn't work because at the time I worked around forklifts and other machinery. It was fucking scary, just suddenly being near-deaf. Couldn't even have proper conversations.

Fuck going through anything even similar to that again.
