Just got the news from my friend Ricky Mortis. He, along with Dave, worked with me for many years at Progpower. Dave The Metal Guy (David Standifer) passed away yesterday, apparently from an aneurysm. Kind of in shock right now. I have never known someone any more alive than Dave, nor someone who was as much of a beacon for metal. We'll miss you brother.

Here's his Facebook page if you'd like to offer condolences

Holy shit... he will definitely be missed... :(

Oh no, that's terrible news. My deepest sympathy and condolences go out to his family. May he R.I.P.

Wow. Really sad. I only knew Dave through PP, but I think I talked with him at least a little every year I was there. Really nice guy! He will certainly be missed. RIP Dave. :headbang:

On a small side-note, I noticed the last thing Dave had posted on his facebook page was this:
David Standifer said:
i have to find new insurance!
we can no longer afford 550.00 a month!! So much for Blue Cross Blue Shield individual.
I really hope that this battle for insurance did not have something to do with his passing ... if it was something that could have been prevented or recovered from otherwise. My thoughts go out to his family.

Wow... not sure if our paths crossed. Regardless, it's sad whenever a member of this extended family passes. My sincerest condolences to all his friends and family.

By the way, I noticed this quote on Dave's FB page. Since he apparently thought it was worth sharing, I just thought I'd pass it along:

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." - Hunter S. Thompson
