Hey guys, I'm in the market for a DI box. I can get the Radia PRO DI brand new for $105 (canadian), or the Radial Mk3 used for $140 (cdn)

Is it worth it to upgrade to the Mk3, or Am I fine with the Pro DI.

I'm mainly recording hardcore, and metal bands (if that makes a difference)

thanks a ton.

If you're using active pickups, you'll probably have a lot better results with an active DI. I have both a PRODI and a J48. The J48 is much better on actives and almost as good on passives. If I could have only one, it would hands down be my active box.

The Countryman is the best Active DI, IMO

Based on what? I've heard great things about Radial, and also about Countryman, but I've never used either one. I'm upgrading from a pretty cheap DI box, and I had settled on the J48 MK2 because from everything I found, it seemed like it was probably about the best active box I could get.

What would you say makes the Countryman better, and would it depend on your style? I might change my mind.

I'm using active EMG 81/85 on all of my guitars, and my cable run from the DI to my interface will only be 6ft, so knowing that, would you still recommend the J48? In that tutorial, he was saying that the Countryman can have trouble with strong signal from active pickups, so I'm not sure.

Well the Countryman doesn't have a pad, that's the only reason I can think of why the the J48 is better for hotter signals, it has a -15dB pad, which I have used quite a bit.

Check out this DI shootout I did awhile ago dude

I just checked out the shootout. I only listened to the EMG 85 clips because the passive pickup test is irrelevant to my situation. Between a, b, and c, the difference I heard was negligible at best to my ears, and I consider myself to have a pretty good ear, and my monitoring chain is pretty clean and reliable. Is there supposed to be a night and day difference between them, or is it really that negligible a variance?
