Anyone like them? I absolutely love them. You can't imagine how pissed I was when I heard the first Audioslave single, expecting to hear a badass rap by Zach, and instead hearing Chris Cornell's voice. uke:
I love all of their albums, Evil Empire being my favorite. They brought extreme poltical music to the mainstream, which was a good and bad thing. It woke people up, but eventually it turned into just another fad. I love the fact that they were political, it gave a lot of power to their songs.
It got a little out of hand though. Anyone hear the rumors of the band starting a guerrila army? A couple of idiots launched a politically inspired riot, and claimed "they did it for rage." The media ate it up, and thereafter you got in trouble for liking RATM. My friends and I got to experience this firsthand. We were walking through L.A. looking for a place to eat. Now, keep in mind that we were all hispanic, and three of the five of us had Rage shirts on. A store owner came out and confronted us, saying that we were hindering the operationg of his store. A couple squad cars showed up, and interrogated us. Sure, we didn't get in trouble, but damn! Ever since then my friends and I always joke that "we got arrested for being brown on a saturday afternoon." (right on to anyone who gets that joke...."don't be a menace")
