Ramesses, Egyptian pharoah. Tanks, a tool of war. We Will Lead You to Glorious Times, a phrase spelled out in illegible font by some National Socialist Black Metal outfit. But RAMESSES - We Will Lead You to Glorious Times is a stoner/doom album hailing from Merry Olde England. Makes sense, right?
If the dudes from ENTOMBED started an EYEHATEGOD tribute band with CARCASS vocalist/bassist Jeff Walker's dead great uncle on the mic, they would be ripping off RAMESSES. This is down and dirty like southern sludge, but with extremely evil vocals. The whole affair has a real raw sound to it, especially in the drums, but that just enhances the whiskey drenched feel. The band mellows out a bit for closing track "Black Domina" with lengthy clean guitar sections, but still has those menacing vocals and of course more 10-ton riffs. This may not be death metal, but it was certainly designed for fans of said persuasion.
We Will Lead You to Glorious Times is the album for straight-edge fans of UFOMAMMUT. All the doom and gloom, none of that pesky drug stuff to tempt your self-repressive ass. Good thing this rather short album still smokes.
