Randall mic eliminator

All MTS Series cabinets are equipped with stereo 8 Ohm or 4/16 Ohm mono inputs and The Mic Eliminator XLR stereo/mono direct outs. Each direct out includes 3-way voicing switch and ground lift.

Voicing options: Normal, Dark or Bright

I had a Randall 2x12 loaded with the Mic Eli and 2x Eminence Texas Heats. I never recorded with it but I did use it live a few times and it sounded pretty good IMO. If i remember correctly I used one channel on the dark setting and the other on normal and it blended in nicely.

I have one and im sure andy does too, it sounds great for live and demo work although im not lookin to replace a micd signal on a record with it anytime soon.

I would personally never use any amp sim over a miced cab live
or in the studio (lol even though I haven’t heard this one yet)

I’m more interested in what this cab sounds like?

Ill be using my usual 6505, I noticed it’s got a similar construction
As the mesa cab, these 2 sound alike?

I have an Orange and an Engle both fitted with v30s and they sound completely different.

Generally want a sum up of the general sound ill get from a cab like this before I buy one.

Anyone got one of these and a 6505 head? A sound clip would be very welcome lol :kickass:

The Orange and Engl sound different probably because one has front-mounted V30s (Engl), the other rear-mounted (Orange), as well as one using sound-deadening inside the cab (Engl) and one not (Orange). The Randall seems downright identical to the Mesa Stiletto/Traditional spec-wise, though, so I'd say it looks like a winner!

I was babysitting FOH on the Sweden Rock Cruise last week, and Candlemass was one of the bands that played. All bands used either a dual recto or a 5150 (with matching cabs, but we only used the Mesa's). It sounded good until someone on stage kicked/tripped over the left mic stand and before I actually saw that, their set was almost done. I wondered what the hell was wrong with their soundman, since the right guitar sounded 1000 times better. When I moved the mic back after their set it was pointing right between the speakers. :erk:

I wished he'd be using a cab sim. There's no chance in hell it could've sounded worse than that.

I use that exact setup and it sounds really good. I'll try and do you a sound clip as soon as I can.

As for the mic eliminators - I tried recording with them once and they sounded better than I was expecting, but obviously a mic sounded better. Haven't used them live yet, I'm sure I will at some point though

would you recommend it over a mic for live ?

I would absolutely recommend them over a micd cab for live. It rules. It keeps your sound consistent every night and eliminates any phasing and bleed issues... that alone is worth it. I'd also recommend the palmer cab sims if you dont have the randall.

i really like them for live.

Well I'm glad I bought! I'll start use the Mic Eliminator for live then. Thanks!

But you can still use one if you want, so it's basically a Hotplate with a cab-emulating XLR out, right?
