Random thoughts on Kalmah

hardcore? How insulting.

October Falls came to my mind, and quickly wiped Sonata Artica from getting any title of "best finnish band around"

Though I don't say October Falls are the best finnish band around either. I just think it's pretty stupid to say one band is the best band from X country when you haven't listened to all the bands coming from that country.

It's all opinionated and it is stupid to say one band is any better than another due to this fact. Though with a mentality like that, it's pretty silly to call a band "gay" for no apparent reason other than that they are considered power metal.

and btw, for those who felt insulted, when I'm saying "gay" in this particular case, I mean "extremely cheesy and according more importance to the projected image than to the music itself"

see sk8er boi? I saw you coming.

Not all power metal bands are gay you moron

Take Savage Circus or Blind Guardian as examples.

October Falls are really cool but Sonata Arctica has crafted some pretty amazing songs. Most people are as biased against power metal nowdays as they are against pop punk, its pretty rediculous really. Sonata Arctica is also better than Kalmah, however Kalmah is much better than Children of Bodom, but COB are horrible. So where does that leave us?

Wrong again sir. It's a fact that Sonata Arctica cares little about their image, and I fail to see this "cheesyness".

Yea you really should try listening to the band sometime, and understanding that most of the bands you listed in this thread take themselves more seriously than Sonata ever will. Tony Keiko is one goofy son of a bitch on and off stage.

I dunno, I always felt it was a sense of humor. They're so off the wall I enjoy the show.
I also can enjoy listening to power metal cds, like old rhapsody albums for example, they're pretty fast and entertaining. As long as you don't read the lyrics you're fine. Rage is also pretty cool.

I have yet to see SA live, but their music is quite well done. I didn't even know they had a image :P

I find them to be a bit more melodic then typical power metal, and a bit more technical (note the song Wolf and Raven).

bah, I listened to a dozen of songs some years ago and never felt the need to hear more. I can give them another chance though, I'll check if I can get some mp3s or something.

I still haven't find any inspired power metal in like the last 2 years. Well, Amaran could be considered an exception cause they were reaaaallly good, but they called it a day :(
