rare prog from early 70s

Has anyone heard of Ephel Duath? I'm listening to their 2003 release The Panter's Pallete and it's amazing. Experimental metal with horns. It's really good and not just random and unique just for the sake of being different. It sounds great.

I like it a lot. They are very skilled musicians, and esp. their drummer is very visibly technical and all over the place. The only grouch I have with them is that the songs are too similar to one another, with similar structure, song lengths, breakdowns etc.
Painter's Pallete is also a marked improvement over their last album.

I don't see whats so great about Dredg. I listened to their new album, Catch Without Arms, and it sounded like a typical, emo-tinged rock album. At times he sounds like an 80s singer (whose name I can't remember; maybe Morrissey?), but mostly he sung with an annoying, whiny voice. The songs even sounded the same, with the chorus blatently appearing five times each in a song.
Why why why why are they so good?

mostly because of the el cielo album. however this new one is great in its own right. it IS indeed more pop oriented...but i love a lot of the instrumentation on it as well...not just the choruses. they do a LOT of things most modern rock bands dont do musically.

alternative 3....i just sent you about 5-6 linda perhacs songs to your email. let me know how you like them on here.

and anyone else who would like them, let me know, i can just forward the same emails to you.

This night there´s an interesting Rockpalast-programme on the German tv-station WDR Fernsehen (though I guess there won´t be many on this forum who will be able to watch it):

On Tuesday, somewhere between 0.45 and 3.15 a.m. CET (thus in about 3 hours from now), they´ll show excerpts of a concert by Nektar recorded some weeks ago. Since they´ll also show excerpts of concerts by several other bands, I´m afraid it will be just two or three songs.

After that, the programme continues (until 5.55 a.m.) with a Krautrock-Special recorded last December featuring Birth Control, Amon Düül II and Guru Guru. They already aired excerpts of this special a few months ago, but I hope this time they´ll show some more songs.

Since I´ve got to get up early next morning, I won´t be able to watch this programme, but I´ll try to tape it on video. (In case anyone is interested, I´ll let you know what songs they played.)

BTW, next Monday, May 23, they´ll show another excerpt of the Nektar-concert somewhere between 1.00 and 3.00 a.m. CET on the same tv-station. (Well, at least I hope it will be another excerpt and not the same they are going to show this night. I´ll also have to videotape that one to find out.)

Cheers Dude.

Purchases from the last week if anyone is interested.

Black Sabbath - Live at Last. Its in pretty bad condition, but hearing wicked world and Killing yourself to live, live.
Dredg - Not much that hasnt been said on here about this band, good album
White Willow - Sounds like it was recorded in the 70's, i like the instrumental passages, and liberal use of keyboard.
Katattonia - Last fair deal gone down - They obviously practices alot, between Discouraged ones and this album. Passing bird is prob my fav so far.
Santana - Caravan of Dreams (?) - Its quite good, havent listened to it much, but in see why he is famous now.
Gong - NO idea what its called - Its good but sounds rather similar to the other album i have.

get the linda perhacs mp3s?

I think you can find a lot of her albums in the indious indie DC hub(indious.no-ip.com:4411).
Esp. check out the song 'Tokyo Tower'.

What do you guys think of Codeseven? I don't like most of their earlier hardcore albums, but I was quite impressed by The Rescue and Dancing Echoes/ Dead Sounds albums.
The Rescue esp. had some brilliant songs like Danger, Southie and The Camel City.

If you all can go crazy over Dredg, then I'm sure you can find something to appreciate in codeseven(esp. with the last couple of albums).

I just found out on Camel's website that Andy latimer is moving back to england from california. Im hoping this means they may tour again someday...i was very sad that i wasnt able to see them after their farewell tour.

Have any of you been able to see Camel live?
