Dungen people...Dungen. I cant stress that band enough here.

Also The Works. Another great MUST hear band from NWOSPR.

After the fact the Dungen's album got reviewed at pitchforkmedia, its hardly an obscure act :D

NWOSPR  :loco:

no but really, i never said they were that "obscure"...just not very spoken of on this forum, and VERY good.

in the court is nothing short of godly, as many of us know... in the wake (their 2nd album) is pretty much a rehashing of the court.
I agree in the court is a better album, but the title track from wake of poseidon is the best song from both albums IMO. :)

I'm proud that I have now bought Caravan's In the land of Grey and Pink , and ashamed for it taking so long! What a lovely album, a pleasant and easy listen. Favourite tracks: NFU, Winter Wine, title track.

I've also become a proud owner of Ulver's Kveldssanger and Bergtatt, which you recommended, and am very pleased!

PS: I'm seeing Dungen in early August at a free city festival, so I've decided to give them another chance.

awesome, good to hear. did you get the extended and remastered version of ITLOGAP? or did you get the normal version?

also, if youre seeing dungen, thats amazing...id love to see them live...and hopefully will eventually.

It's the remaster with 5 bonus tracks. I remember you praising some of them once, haven't had time to pay attention to them yet myself.

Which Dungen album do you recommend to get first? I've heard "Stadsvandringar" and remember being turned off by the bad lyrics.

@brian: do you own the director's cut version or the original one?

i think those remasters with bonus tracks are teh suck. i dont mind them being remastered but those bonus tracks make me go nuts. why do they put them on the cds and totally destroys the flow? i mean cant they make it a two cd set with the original stuff on one disc and the bonus stuff on the second (the rereleases of the psych waltz stuff are made that way...).

i thought about making a new thread about it but id decided to not do it:
the german progrock magazin 'eclipsed' made a voting among their editorial staff about favorit longtracks. it's quite interesting (but i cant be bothered to type all hundred titles down here. opeth - the drapery falls made it to place 87 which is kinda cool since they are not much into prog-metal...

here's the top ten:

pink floyd - shine on you crazy diamond
the doors - the end
yes - the gates of dilirium
led zeppelin - kashmir
genesis - supper's ready
pink floyd - echoes
deep purple - child in time
the who - won't get fooled again
king crimson - in the court of the crimson king
ton steine scherben - der traum ist aus

i only know six of these songs and i never heard 'ton steine scherben' before...
shine on crazy diamond is my fave song, so i agree on their number one...

well, i dont speak swedish, so i cant make heads or tails if the lyrics are bad or not...but i do like the vocal melodies themselves. id recommend any of their albums really. ta det lungt, stadsvandrigar and the self titled are all quality to me. however people seem to say ta det lungt is their current masterpiece.

So I was reading through the back log of posts on this thread and when somebody mentioned bands writing lyrics that don't really mean anything I thought of Hawkwind. I don't know if they have been mentioned, but I dig the one album of theirs I have. It has Ginger Baker on drums which is pretty sweet. Quite a goofy record though. Any opinions on them?

A note for the Opeth fan who also digs Van Der Graaf Generator. The new remasters of the first three VDGG albums are out in the UK, with the rest to follow end of month. The sound is greatly improved and there are bonus tracks to be had.

right on. ill have to pick those up eventually. however theyre not near the top of the list since i already own the originals...re-buying remasters is never a priority for me.

also, paatos and wobbler are in the works with their next albums...im excited for that. ill keep posting updates on that as well.

Sweet never brought any VDGG cuz the quality of the cd's is shit.

Gentle Giant have also released a few remasters, ill have to pick up the power and the glory, Aspirations is worth the asking price alone.
