Ok

Haven't posted anythin in a while. This isn't a great judge of sound quality, but oh well. Its just vocals layered over the original song (not my choice! haha). A bit too much reverb but I've since lost the files.

What do you think of the vocal quality? I'm recording vocals in a little bit for my EP. In a smaller room now though, so not so much of that cheap-reverb-sound. Screams sound shitty but ohwell.

Just an SM57 into I think a Toneport or maybe my FP10.

And, FYI.

ALL first take. NO tuning. Check out 2;39.

edit: miiiight wanna put a link.

Anyway, main reason for posting this is.. how can I improve this? Don't really have the cash to buy a proper mic for it. Will be recording both cleans and screams.
I had a mattress up against the wall behind the microphone to stop reflections - but I heard it was better that the mattress be behind the singer. Yes/no?

I think it sounds pretty well recorded, although it doesn't fit in the mix. It sounds like it's just been put on top of the song, which it has been, so thats OK.

Some of the notes are a bit shakey.

As for getting a better room sound, what else do you have in your room? Carpet/wood floor/Concrete?

@XeS
As I said, I dont have access to the original files, so I cant :(

As for getting a better room sound, what else do you have in your room? Carpet/wood floor/Concrete?

Moved from a large wooden floored/roofed, rectangular room to a small room with wooden walls and ceiling, carpeted floor, and an oddly shaped roof. Much more furniture too, so there's a LOT less room sound. With my old setup if I compressed too much then it started sounding really really bad.

I thought you were a dude. are you?

now seriously, pretty nice vocals man, love your voice, screams aren't that bad, reminds me of Alexisonfire and Eyes set to kill (the backing vocals) just popping a bit too much I think, if my AKGK77s aren't cheating me

Ha,
This is my sister, not me. I can't sing for shit.

What do you mean by popping a bit much? Its just layed over the original song so the backing vocals are the original ones. They had a LOT of 'ess'ing, is that the poppnig you're talking about?
