With an amp that has a Master Volume control, what does everyone here use as a good ratio between the Channel Volume and Master Volume to get a good tone?

For example, the Mesa Dual Rectifier has a Channel Volume and an Output that acts as the Master Volume. What balance of the two knobs do you use for the maximim amount of tone? Do you crank the Channel Volume to around 3 o'clock and then use the Master Volume to control your overall volume? Vice versa?

Andy...anyone?

I generally have them about the same on tube amps (both between3-5)
generally just open them both up until it sounds like it 'comes alive'.

thing is the master volume or output volume is the most important for tubes amps because that affects how much the poweramp is being worked and in turn the tubes.
