Real drums/slate samples. My first thread and only my 2nd mix ever.

Let me know what you think guys think. I'm new to recording, but i've been around the music scene and been on the artist side of recording enough to know the basic direction i'm trying to go with a recording.

It's just a short clip, but this studio has only been open a week so i've been spending most of my time on this forum.

Anyone's input is welcome.

everything sounds real nice. the guitars might be a touch dark though. ON another note i never realized how many people were actually in decently big bands.

Cool man ,drums sounds ace , any processing on the slate samples ?

thanks bud! Just a high pass at about 100htz on the kick plus a little boost around the 5k range. For toms i eq'd a bit of the boomyness out of them somewhere around the 60 to 125htz range plus a gate to keep them from ringing out all day long and another little boost around 4k. Nothing more than that though! They sound amazing straight out of the box! This is only my 2nd recording with them, so i can't wait to see how they sound farther down the road when i actually know what i'm doing.

Sounds pretty sweet dude. As much as I really like all of the drum sounds. I'm not 100% sure the snare has enough bite to be heard through the guitar tone. Have you tried using flux bitter sweet to add a bit more smack to your snare?

Also I'd say the guitars are a little bit too dark, and maybe a teensy bit too loud. The sound very full, but just kinda dull (not as in boring, but as in the opposite of sharp)

Fucking love your band btw.

Thanks bud! you're band is awesome too! Definitely one of the few good bands i've heard from the UK(no offense to the UK).

I tracked the guitars with a Pod xt, so i had to cut alot of the high end out of them to get rid of that digital amp fuzziness. I definitely took a bit to much out now that i listen to it with fresh ears.

as far as the snare goes, i was comparing the level to another mix of the same style from a different engineer(exact same slate sample), and it seemed on par with his. It's really easy to mix those slate samples too loud, so i tried to keep from doing that(though a bit much).

thanks for the input!

Haha, thanks man, that means a lot!

And yeah I know what you mean about the pod, it's difficult to get a healthy balance between fizz and bite.

I'm assuming you're using the dual rec model dude?

And as far as the snare goes, it might actually be something to do with the guitar being pretty loud (IMO)... Like I said it all sounds awesome, I just feel like the snare gets slightly buried sometimes. Makes me wish I could afford the Slate sample SO badly haha.

Fair enough on the bass, I guess it's not the most ideal way to do it :P Sounds good for what it is man...
