really dumb 7 string question

ok - say I get myself a 7 stringer - how would I play in drop Bb???

cause i know the E string would have to be tuned up to F - but is this dangerous in terms of neck tension?

I know facepalm time - but i really enjoy playing in drop tuning as opposed to standard - easier chord shapes etc....

yup, just do it. As with any proper change of tuning, a full set up will be needed to get things working at their best

get .009 strings but change the 7th for something higher (.62 or more)

I tuned my 7 up to drop B.
The stock strings were lighter than what I run on all my 6's so I don't really see how it could be doing much damage if any.

You're basically tuning the 7string up a half step to C, with the tuning slightly modified to go higher on the 1st string...then dropping the lowest string down to Bb. Your string guages can be similar to what would be used in C-standard if you are really worried about tensions, with a heavier gauge for the 7th string.

In relation to this, I'm currently playing a 5string bass in C standard. Tuned everything up a half step, and I just used a standard set of ProSteel's so it didn't get too tight. Feels tighter, but it wasn't enough to truly alter the tension on the neck in a detrimental way.
