Realtime Filters for Windows or Linux?

I've been using my computer as an amp for my guitar with an RP7 pedal.
I was wondering if there was software that could do stuff like distortion and stuff, like the way effects pedals do

That would be awsome because I dont have the money for a new pedal.

Crashes on my system so I can't really tell you if it's any good. Supposed to work like a multi effect box though. Somewhat limited shareware, but that can be *COUGH*worked around*COUGH*

Linux:

The same type of software, though not with as butt-ugly an interface as the above, and Free of course. You need to have ecasound with LADSPA support installed though, I think.

I havent tried the Linux one yet but the one for windows sounds like ass
