can it be done for under $1000 to have the set-up required to record and prep for re-amping?
if so, what equipment should i be looking at to go along with my Digi003+

cheers:kickass:

$220, done deal.

If you just need to record the DI's to have them reamped somewhere else, just pick up a decent DI box. The Countryman Type 85 gets a ton of praise around here, but for the price of it I'd rather just pick up the Redeye and be able to reamp myself if I needed to as well.

Lots of Redeye users on this board and I think all of us are totally satisfied with everything about the unit, I know I love mine!

what do you think about revalver as well? just for my own attempt at re-amping.
im new to this concept, so permit me to ask a stupid question quickly.
how do i run the signal back out of my DIGI003+ to an amp if i were to reamp with another physical amp?

You record your DI to a track in ProTools, set the output of that track to say output 3 if it's a mono track, or outputs 3/4 if it's stereo (not sure how ProTools deals with hardware outputs or differentiates between tracks because I don't use it). If the track is stereo make sure you pan it 100% to the left. Connect a cable from the output 3 jack on the back of the 003 into the line level input on the reamping device (Redeye in this case) then connect a cable from the reamp output on the Redeye into the input jack on the amp. Mic it up and set a new track in ProTools to record that mic. Hit record and the DI will play back out of output 3 and into the amp while the new track records what the mic is picking up. Done deal!

Word, but I'd still rather use a cheap active DI like the Samson S-Direct or Behringer DI100 than the on-board inst. in's on the 003! (and using a dedicated DI box lets you send the signal to an amp as well as to the interface)

I wouldn't!!!!

DI in on the 003 = THD: 0.0008%

DI in on the 002 = THD: 0.004%

Di100 = THD: 0.005%

S-direct = THD: 0.013%

Don't let internet chatter cloud your judgment. I've used all of those products and while those DI's are passable they are definitely going to negatively color your sound more than just running straight into the 003. Wait until you can afford something nice.

I thought reamping was the budget option?

Radial ProRMP is about $99
insofar as it may save you time sitting in an hourly or daily rate room so that you can track guitars through a choice amp and get good acoustics and signal path and not bother anyone... sure. but the original innovators never thought of it that way... it was merely a tool for being able to change guitar tones at a later date without the need to bring the guitarist back in to re-perform the guitar parts. it was still actually an additional hassle and expense to do.

Hmm, interesting Egan, thanks for that - I use a Redeye, so I of course don't fuck around, but it's good to know for future recommendations to cheap people! :D
