Reaper 4 is out

Coders aren't (or rarely are) the ones who actually use the software to their full extent... So to add functionality to the software itself, they have to ask the actual sound techs. AT LEAST, Cockos seems to listen to their user-base SO MUCH MORE than any other DAW up here. I just wish Reaper had more credibility in the eyes of old-timers. Almost every time I talk about Reaper to some sound techs who's been around for a long time, they always have that condescending look meaning "LULZ N00B"

No idea of what do you mean. I've never used ProTools

What I do mean is with one macro I can manually create a MIDI per track based on the transient detection (great for tom triggering in S2.0), similar to the chromatic midi function but manually (so more control). Also slip editing makes editing drums a breeze.
Then the render functions (render a whole folder into stereo) for the overheads, so I just have one stereo track.

The best way to use Reaper is to write down your whole workflow as you work into a song, and then make a macro for each of the actions you do. Finally assign a hotkey for each one of them. Makes your life much easier, as you can adapt Reaper totally to your ways. That's what I love about it.

just upgraded and loaded up my most recent enormous project (all songs in one session) with tons of 2bus processing, trigger, superior, etc. went absolutely perfectly. it's worth mentioning that i run 32bit reaper in Windows 7 x64.

Yeah Erik I hear ya,
But what I'm saying is that in version 4 the behaviour of the marquee selection has changed in a way that breaks previous functionality, which is a pain in the arse cos now we've got to wait for Adam to figure out a new implementation of that particular macro feature.

My version works perfectly fine, nothing to figure out here, but I've been changing stuff through the whole alpha and beta process to keep up for my own work.

What about the delete exactly doesn't work? I'm not even using a macro, just this:
