hey there,

so, i'm a long-time cubase user, and after reading all the internet praise about reaper i finally decided to give it a shot.
anyways...first impression, it's butt ugly :D
second impression, it really seems to be a fast interface. the drag and drop audio import alone is worth a lot imho....
that is, if it wasn't for my stupidity.
basically, i can't get the damn thing to play back my audio files. when i press space or click the corresponding icon on the transport menu, i don't get any sound, and the position bar or whatever you'd call it isn't moving either.

i'm 99% sure i'm just too dumb as of right now, so, please enlighten a total reaper noob like me and help me use the damn thing :D :D :D

thanks in advance

Uhmm, I haven't gotten into Reaper yet but mine does just fine when I hit space or the play button :P Have you set everything up in the options, regarding the sound card and what not?

Oh and about the looks, you can download a whole bunch of skins, some of them actually look delicious! You can also make your own and shit... I haven't gotten into that though but I'd love to have some babes on my interface! haha... that's sad yea >_<

It's an issue with your audio device preferences. Go Options>Preferences>Audio>Device and make sure you select your recording interface from the drop down selections. If you use your internal sound card then just experiment with all of the different drivers and stuff that show up until one works. With my internal sound card, WaveOut and Direct Sound are the ones that work properly with Reaper, assuming you select the right outputs, sample format, etc. Just experiment in that window for a while, you'll figure out how you need to have it set eventually. Copy the device settings from Cubase even, that should work.

alright, got it :)

i already experimented in that window, but stuck to the according m-audio monitor mixer vs wav out etc options (using a audiophile 2496 card as of right now btw), which strangely enough didn't work.
now that i set it to wdm kernel streaming it's working just fine, so, thank you all!

btw, anyone got a link for the "easy on the eyes" skin??
