Yes, yes that sounds weird, but the Fireball just has far too much gain for recording. I literally have to have the gain between 7-8 o'clock to get a sound that after double or quad tracking doesn't sound like a huge fuzzy mess. I feel that with the knob that low the preamp isn't really working at its best, so I'm looking for a lower output tube to compensate and allow me to open the preamp up a bit. So any ideas what to get? I'll probably buy 3 tubes and see which works best (Only looking to replace the V1 tube).

My Madison's have Electro Harmonix 12AT7 tubes driving the clean channel and the Reverb. I don't know what they'll do for your particular application, but I do know that they make for the best sounding clean tone I've EVER heard from a tube amp.

Ahh thanks, I have the Electro Harmonix 12ax7 in one of the positions at the moment and really like it so I might give their 12at7 a go.
