I'm going to buy myself a Christmas gift and I think it's time I got myself an OD pedal. When I was in London recently I was tempted by a Maxon OD-9. I decided against it as I didn't really know much about this pedal.

So I'm throwing it out to the Sneap Forum Hive Mind.

What's in your collective opinions are the best OD pedals at around 100 euros or so.

:)

Well, the Maxon OD808 is well liked by myself and the general public here, and it doesn't cost much more than 100 Euro. Definitely a staple OD, can't go wrong. If you want to come in under 100 Euro though, then BOSS makes an SD-1 pedal, which is pretty good as well. Not as good as the Maxon Pedals, but you get what you pay for. Some people do prefer the SD-1's though, so preference is king.

I use a ts-7 which sounds just as great to me as any other pedal I've ever had the chance to try. Sadly they seem to be discontinued, but when I got mine it was much cheaper than the alternatives. Maybe something to look around for?

What about the TC Electronic Spark Booster? Havent tried it yet myself but im tempted to buy one.

heh...looks like they did ditch the ts-7. probably didn't work out well for them when people realized it was the same circuit as the OD pedals that cost more than twice the price...

Maxon OD9+ Pro, tightest boost I've tried, and I've tried alot including the od808, TS9, TS7, TS808, OCD and GT-OD. I like the OD808 second best, for certain amps it sounds better and I always prefer it for leads, make sure you have get a noise gate too, ISP decimator is the only way to go imo.

I owned both a TS-7 and TS-9 for awhile a they sounded very different, the TS-9 had more high end/mid range and was less noisy then the TS-7 (but still noisy as fuck)

I would just save a little more and get exactly whatever you want. In the long run, it's not that much compared to all the other gear. I think the Maxon OD-820 is awesome. Sounds awesome, still nice and simple, true bypass, unique clean/distorted blending going on with the distortion knob that processes the signal in a nice sort of way if just blended in a touch. I had an OD808 too and it sounded good turned on and boosting an amp but I A/B'd it and it sucked quite a bit of treble when off. The OD820 doesn't do that. Always sounds very gainy and fluid and clear when on, and transparent when off.

You can't really go wrong with the Maxon 808. 820 might be interesting but for the price difference........................................................................OD808 is probably best-bang-for-your-buck!

I bought GFS Classic Greenie because of this video (I can't comparison between it and TS).

And I love it!

keep in mine the TS7/TS10 ibanez series had cheap cases and jacks and are not durable. In the studio its ok but for gigging you will certainly run into issues with durability.

BTW the TS7 is exactly the TS9 circuit to my knowledge and the TS10 is exactly like the maxon OD808 circuit. So if you can score a TS10 for cheap its like getting a discount on at OD808. The difference is the TS10 has that cheap plastic case and shitty jacks.

You gotta try 'em out and see what you dig the best there's no rules. What amp are you using? Judging from many clips on this forum certain pedals work better/worse depending on the amps.

A 5150/6505 really likes the OD808's and OD820's from clips I've heard. I'm using an early 90's TS9 with my 5150 and it suits my needs pretty well. But id love to comp it with the OD808.

I don't have the TS7 but I have the fuzz from the same series and I find the box very sturdy and well engineered. Just saying.

I use the OD808 and have an old crappy TS5 (soundtank series) as a backup.
Let me tell you the sonic difference is negligible when used as a boost. The housing is reaaaaally bad on the TS5 though.
Also have an SD-1 but I rarely use it.
