Recently, I've been listening to lots of Ark "Burn the Sun". It reminds me at times of Evergrey and Wolverine.

All three bands seem to have a particular vibe: good atmosphere, almost movie soundtrack 'ish, fantastic vocals, and a certain 'darker' edge to them.

What else can I explore in this territory? :Spin:

The only prog bands/albums I've ever been really been taken with are the Wolverine album before the most recent, Vanden Plas, and Karmakanic. Vanden Plas sound kind of like a dirtier, earthier Dream Theater, but they aren't too bad despite that. Karmakanic are just all over the place - grandiose, all-style-encompassing, weird-out concept prog with loopy bass effects and shit.

Rhapsody =) =)

(im only semi kidding, as i know there not prog, there power metal...and i know im probobly the only person in here who likes the cheesy bastards...)

OK so I know Vanden Plas, Karmakanic (man, Goran Edman rules but this is too proggy for me), Symphony X, and Rhapsody already.

Enchant I'll look into....

Aren't Spocks Beard really, really proggy and wanky a la DT? I guess I should add that bands like Ark and Evergrey don't become technical-guitar-wank fests, so let me interject here and ask for bands that don't get too widdly diddly....

A top 10 band list of prog (mostly metal) acts (except the dynamic trio Dream Theater, QUeensryche, Fates Warning):
Psychotic Waltz
Shadow Gallery
Watchtower
Depressive Age
Soul Cages
Mayfair
Vauxdvihl
Seer's Tear
Symphony X
Wastefall (ok not quite in the top 10 but i had to say them because its a BRILLIANT new prog band from Greece, and they are SO GREAT that everyone is going to like them)
A top 10 prog metal albums list (except the 3 bands mentioned before):
Psychotic Waltz - Into The Everflow
Shadow Gallery - Tyranny
Heir Apparent - One Small Voice
Vauxdvihl - To Dimension Logic
Depressive Age - Electric Scum
Watchtower - Control And Resistance
Soul Cages - Moments
Mayfair - Behind
Seer's Tear - Precious
Wastefall - Soulrain 21
these are my recommendations. Buy them all. Thank me later

Enchant isn't too bad, actually.

Don't know if they are considered prog, but when I got the promos for The Jelly Jam and Jughead, I was addicted to those.
