Recommend some classy Prog acts

I need to join in on the Towers circle jerk. Been pulling that album out a lot recently. Fucking amazing album, not on my Top 10 of all time, but god damn close.

Also, if you're going to listen to DNB, do NOT do it via MP3. The mp3 compression hacks the shit out of the production and turns it into a real fucking mess. I have not had any luck ever getting that disc into MP3 encoding. Favorite disc of all time BTW (and the only Nevermore album on my Top 10).

Pain of Salvation is so fucking awful now that I can't even listen to the back catalog without getting sick. I really want to know what the fuck happened to that band.

I haven't read this thread, but Royal Hunt is an excellent prog band. Superior to bands like Vanden Plas, Spocks Beard, etc. Also Threshold are great if they haven't been mentioned.

But Ali, please don't tell me you have gone the way of the mp3? :erk:

Only as far as sampling in order to decide what to buy vs what not to buy. So in context with Nevermore, and plenty of other bands, I would have probably avoided buying 9/10ths of their catalog.

To be precise, most of the CDs I have in my tradepile (I still need to do an inventory) are essentially CDs I bought 'blind' -- reading reviews, buying into hype etc -- and ended up disappointed.

I love MP3s now. Since the advent of the MP3, I've never bought a single dud CD, so from now on, my collection will be refined as refined can be.

Just quickly -- I recently bought the two new October Falls releases (Streams plus the new all acoustic) directly from Mikko. Since he doesn't have Paypal, and a cash transfer would have cost more than the CDs, I had Chief B send him cash from London, he then sent the CDs from Finland to London, and they were then DHL'd to me in NY.

Yeah, I'm still very much a CD kinda guy... :kickass:

Fuuuckkk....I really WANT to do it too just to get this sheet out of my house. I can't afford anymore BOLTZ furniture so I've got to make space for new shit.

100%. Buying blind is for Luddites.

Couple of sweet prog (obviously not prog-metal) and related hardrock albums:

Room - Pre-Flight (1970)
Bodkin - Bodkin (1972)
Pan - Pan (1970??)
High Tide - Sea Shanties (1969?)

ALI -- You have heard Control Denied - The Fragile Art of Existence right?! I mean, it features Chuck Shuldiner and all and I would think that you probably own it but....do you?

Redemption - The Origins of Ruin. Great lyrics. Guitar work is Nick's finest. Some of Ray Alder's best vocal work in years.

I'll have to check this out. I just caught this jam on e-radio, and found it to be light on the "faggo." Vunts are from the favela of my dismay as well. Nadrick, ye ever do a gig with these cats? :err:
