Recording 5150 + cab with sm57 with dummy load!

Has anyone tried a real amp and a real mic'd cab recording in home environment with dummy load?
So that you don't have to push the volume up so much? I think that you can't have the movement of the speaker with this kind of method or what??
WHY the hell i haven't run on some clips of this method? Is it so obvious shit that nobody has even bothered to try?

People use Attenuators to do this all the time.
And basically, yes, you'll miss out on the speaker movement by attenuating the volume.

Honestly, I only find attenuators to benefit NMV (non master-volume) amps, as well as older amps that rely on power tube distortion as part of the sound, otherwise, in my opinion, you'll be fine just turning up the volume to however loud or quiet you need it above a mouse fart.
