Recording a tube amp line out -> cab impulse

I have
http://www.jasoncohenitservices.com/Heaven&Hell_2.mp3

This is quad tracked

Hard left & right guitars are the new Engl Amp Sim with Recab 6l6 Ghandi Cab 57 center of cone
80% guitars are Peavey Valveking TS9 line out into Recab 6l6 Ghandi Cab Cab 57 off axis

This is probably one of the best guitar tones I have ever gotten and it was less then a 30 minute setup. I am EXTREMELY impressed with how faithfully Recabinet works. Ill probably be doing ALOT more recording like this!

I'm going to have to get/make a dummy load soon.
I've been testing this method with my Cobra line out, it works really well but unfortunately it doesn't work while on standby AND the master volume = output volume
so i need to have the volume at least 1/4 up until i get a good level

This is all great info, thank you guys for your help! But I was wondering, can I just run a cable from the Preamp Out, from the back of my 5150 straight into my sound card? Or would I have to use a DI box of some sort?

edit: error. user iq too low. mental note: do not plug 5 dollar pickups into 2000 dollar amp. results always less than stellar

i've done it with the palmer my 6505 line out and revalver cab simulator with pretty good results to be fair its difficult to tell the difference unless your ears are highly highly trained..........

same. Did it with my Mark IV and Revalver impulses and it was pretty close to the "Kitty" tone in Revalver....

Yeah, I've had good success with amp FX loop send -> interface -> impulse. It sounds much much more lively and powerful than ampsim -> impulse. And talk about a quick setup for an excellent demo tone! Just one cable from FX loop into interface, and you're set  You can monitor through the amp, and then later pick an impulse you like.

I used to do it until I realized my amp isn't great. :) I'm pretty sure Suecof did this with a 5150 for the newest Whitechapel album (just judging from the recording videos, but it's possible it was just for scratch guitars). Very nice tone on that album in my opinion.

there's a real quick little test mix i threw together over the last like 20 minutes. riff is generic as hell, playing is sloppy, and i don't think the guitar was even quite in tune, but it was tracked off of the line out of my 20W rev jr. with the master sitting around 8 with a TS7 in front of the amp. slapped a catharsis impulse on it(02-06, fuck that s-highpres shit), HP@65, LP@12k, and that's it.

I have a triple rectifier. with the cab running, would I send the FX loop SEND, or RETURN to my profire 2626? Gain wise, still follow the -6 "rule"?

I need to be walked into this, sorry guys. haha

haha it seemed like the obvious answer, I just wanted to be sure. but with the cab plugged in, and from the fx send to the interface I'd be fine? Obviously, I'd have to feed an impulse after the head was recorded. I'm going to be trying it this weekend.

I used to do this with a THD Hotplate. THD hotplate handling the load stuff, then taking the line-output of the amp.

I believe the line out of most amps will come before the power section, right?

Yeah, I found the best way to do this was to attach the speaker output of the amp directly into my Countryman Type 85, and use the paralleled output to attach a dummy load so the amp doesn't fry.

Here is the end product of doing this with the Bugera 6260 into Ryan's impulses: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/285689/Music/GoodWillOut-Paranoid.mp3

and more recently here is a 6505 into Ryan's impulses (rough mix, unfinished): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/285689/death-metal-mix5.mp3

any problems doing this with a passive DI?
