Ok, So I'm recording a friends band of mine with 3 guitarists. They have sent me a couple of guitar pro files just so I can have a quick listen and get a very vauge idea of what their aiming for.

For the most part there are 2 rhythms playing pretty much the same thing apart from the odd note here and there (dont know why, not my band) and t here is a "lead" so to speak. It has a solo in there but its pretty much just playing octaves of the rhythym, pitch bends n shit.

How would you guys go about panning and dealing with this sort of arrangement?

Quad track the rhythms (dualtrack for each guitar) and then dual track the lead?

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks

Without knowing what the "lead" is supposed to add to song, I would say assuming its to enhance stuff like choruses and so on then I would dual/quad (if thats your thing) track the rhythm guitars and dual track the leads and panning them out to the sides.

split the parts into "leads" and "rythem" parts, dual track each rythem on each sides and add a dual tracked guitar for "lead" parts panned C or 50L 50R which is better if there are vocals panned C.

the 3rd guitar, which plays the leads, doesn't need to be recorded if it plays the same parts as the rythem.

* if the 3 guitars plays lead parts all the time - than your'e fucked.....

Cheers guys

I think they have the 3 guitars for more of a live thing. Ill just track one of the guitarists (considering most of the parts are the same for both guitarists) and then track leads.

Ill just experiment! Seems a bit of a silly question now :p Was still pretty tired
