It would be better to compare Slayers "Reign in Blood" with Metallicas "Kill 'em all". "Master of Puppets" has more prog-influences and it's not really thrashy like "Reign in Blood" is (but it's the best Metallica Album for me).

So, if you just want speed and aggresion than take Slayer.
If you also want some good tunes than Metallica should be your choice.

master of puppets for me.

my fave slayer album is seasons...i think that's more on the level of master....

Like someone else said, reign in blood is a litle overrated perhaps.
Don't get me wrong it is an awesome awesome album. As far as master though, despite what metallica are now *spit* you still have to respect their older works and it's been said so many times but master of puppets really is a one of those albums that only comes along so very rarely and is in all accounts virtually perfect...
...but defenantly reign in blood is a milestone album when viewed in perspective...and i can understand it's status from that point of view.

So in sumerry

Reign in blood = awesome awesome cd.
master of puppets = untouchable.

What a fucking choice. To totally different albums, but were released at peaking periods of the bands careers. Reign... is my fav Slayer album but And Justice... is still my fav Metallica album. My vote went to ...Puppets. When you have to put these albums side to side, and think of the material on offer, I can't help but feel ...Puppets had the more weight and sole put into it and the songs show this. But on aggresion and "pure metal" stakes, Reign... wins hands down.
There should've been a "tie" vote goddammit.

Puppets all the way. Slayer's riffs always sounded too tinny or shallow. There was never that deep bass and low mid range crunch in Slayer like Puppets had. I love Slayer, but they just sound stale sometimes.
