Does anyone here know some good techniques or exercises for relaxing the right arm? Whenever I play a song with lots of triplets my arm gets tense as fuck, to the point of seriously impeding my playing.

After I shred or thrash and the arm is bothering me, I usually turn off the distortion, load up on chorus and pick something slow using many strings like FLoyd or something.
I also change the attack of the picking angle as well when I do the slow picking and that seems to help. I've actually wrote some cool clean intros accidentally because te arm was too tired to keep shredding/thrashing.

If you want to relax a part of your body a good method is to rate how tense each part of your body is on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 not tense at all 5 very tense), you just say "how tense is my first finger? 3, Second finger? 4, third finnger?2" ect ect right the way up your arm, it's quite suprising how your arm relaxes when you do that, also try picking something and using this technique at the same time to see if their are any problems with your technique

I'm study the technique of the Guitar Craft Institute, founded by Robert Fripp... this techniques is based on the relaxation of all the body, not only the right hand... man it's really good, I've became faster and now I don't get tired so quick...

Another thing maybe to look at is your picking technique. If you're fast picking with your whole arm, that might be an issue. In order to pick fast like that, you kind of have to lock up your arm. I try to pick from my wrist, with a very small amount of arm movement, and you can get a very relaxed speedy picking technique.

Nah, a good wank should be good enough for anybody! :tickled:

My arm starts to ache a bit if I trem pick too hard out for too long, I've pretty much just forced myself to start making sure I pick from my wrist, not my arm (like Barking Pumpkin said). If you're using your whole arm it looks clumsy, can lack some control, and tires you out more. That's probably all there is to it really. Maybe the way you hold your guitar and the height you wear it at can have some bearing on it too, I don't really know though! Just keep practising at it to build up your stamina/strength and all that.

Tons of practice will cure that, it goes after awhile. just rest when your arm gets tired and then play again, rinse and repeat as necessary.
