A 2-bedroom suite at the Residence was $169 or so. $194.50 after all taxes applied.
I'm surprised anyone (aside from Kim, Lara etc.) managed to get a 2-BR suite there, because the hotel was badly overbooked with Hurricane Katrina refugees who weren't checking out. My reservation was transferred to the Residence Inn Buckhead, about 4 miles north. Needless to say, I was Not Happy.
After a lot of talking with the manager of the midtown hotel, they were able to accomodate me with two 1-BR suites at the same price as a 2-BR for Friday and Saturday night -- the two really important days, when a quick walk back to the hotel during ProgPower is really important. They even expedited the rooms so we could check in earlier than normal.
So, all was well that ended well. I think they did the best they could under difficult circumstances, hampered by the way the American Red Cross doles out emergency lodging money. I will
not be filing a complaint with Marriott corporate, and I'm looking forward to staying at the Residence next year.....although ironically, the only room party I actually attended was in the Granada.
One thing the Residence does NOT have that the Fairfield has, in its suites: a CD/DVD player and home-theater setup. So, no ProgPower DVD viewing parties this year. Frankly I'm surprised that any hotel would offer those in a guest-room ("Hey, how loud can we crank this at 4am?!"), but it was really neet.
