TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA
my first time at the Residence Inn this year. 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen with full size refridgerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher and tons of dishes to boot.
A killer breakfast buffet and a supper shindig at 5. i spent NO MONEY on food this year.
you guys outta check this out.

Been doing the Fairfield every year until this year obviously.
We had the Hampton for the pre-party night and then were supposed to go into the Granada for the other 2 night. Show up around 3:30 to check in, and we're told that due to the hurricane, the rooms are filled with folks that aren't checking out so they sent us a convenient 1+ miles up the road to the Best Western Inn at the Peachtrees.... :yell:

We'll either be doing the Hampton or Residence from here on out...

How is the new Coop? I see you are listening to it.... I heard a few songs live a few weeks ago but have not had the money to buy...

i saw Shaye's room...was nice... i may try it out next year.

I used to stay at the Fairfield, stayed at Granda this year. Will be staying at Residence next year (that IS the one directly up the road in front of the venue right?). I went there with a friend to drop something off and it was NICE. Clean, roomy, clean, in room wireless AND some kind of WebTv thing, clean. Looked really nice and my friend said the rates were awesome.

Now come on Yippee.... i am sure a lot of guys leered at her!!!!!
;)

There were two guys in the room next to us from NO. They leered a bit too much at Shannon and made both of us very uneasy.

A 2-bedroom suite at the Residence was $169 or so. $194.50 after all taxes applied.

I'm surprised anyone (aside from Kim, Lara etc.) managed to get a 2-BR suite there, because the hotel was badly overbooked with Hurricane Katrina refugees who weren't checking out. My reservation was transferred to the Residence Inn Buckhead, about 4 miles north. Needless to say, I was Not Happy.

After a lot of talking with the manager of the midtown hotel, they were able to accomodate me with two 1-BR suites at the same price as a 2-BR for Friday and Saturday night -- the two really important days, when a quick walk back to the hotel during ProgPower is really important. They even expedited the rooms so we could check in earlier than normal.

So, all was well that ended well. I think they did the best they could under difficult circumstances, hampered by the way the American Red Cross doles out emergency lodging money. I will not be filing a complaint with Marriott corporate, and I'm looking forward to staying at the Residence next year.....although ironically, the only room party I actually attended was in the Granada. :D

One thing the Residence does NOT have that the Fairfield has, in its suites: a CD/DVD player and home-theater setup. So, no ProgPower DVD viewing parties this year. Frankly I'm surprised that any hotel would offer those in a guest-room ("Hey, how loud can we crank this at 4am?!"), but it was really neet.

The only thing I'd change about the Residence is the fact that they don't have a shuttle.

Originally, we were going to stay in Christina's 1BR suite on Wednesday (for $150) and move into the studio I'd reserved for Thurs-Sun at $90 a night - apparently this was a better deal than even AAA got. When Christina canceled Thurs-Sun in the 1BR, they jacked up her rate for Weds night... BUT... she talked to them Weds and Thurs morning, and they agreed to let us stay in the 1BR suite for Thurs-Sun at the rate at which I'd reserved the studio. The staff was always very helpful and polite, even the cleaning ladies always smiled at us in the halls. I would have no problem staying there again - especially over the Granada, which is small, claustrophobic, and kinda dank.

Thanks, Pellaz. I dont mean to bug you or anyone else, but where is the fairfield and how much does it cost? Also how much is a suite at the Granada?

I'm a bitch, and we were charged $199 for it, with taxes it came to $228. Though, it wasn't the room I booked. I'm going to be looking into it now, because if the rooms were $169, then they're really going to find out how much of a bitch I am.

From a loooooong time Coop fan, it really does nothing for me. I loved the last one 'Eyes' because it had that retro feel, but this one is sub-par, imo. I will be seeing him next week, though, because the man can put on a show second to none.

I see, well can someone tell if it is worth to pay the extra to say at the Residence rather than the Granada. I am making reservations early this year, so I dont get stuck at the holiday mofoing inn that is way too mofoing far away.

I'VE STAYED AT THE RESIDENCE INN THE LAST 4 YEARS. THE FIRST 3 WERE GREAT. MY BUDDIES AND I WERE NOT HAPPY THIS YEAR WHEN WE SHOWED UP THURSDAY AND THEY KICKED US OUT AND PUT US A MILE AWAY. I BOOKED THAT ROOM AT THE END OF JANUARY. IF THEY NEEDED TO MOVE ANYBODY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE LAST PEOPLE THAT BOOKED A ROOM. THEY COULD HAVE AT LEAST CALLED ME AHEAD OF TIME. ON A GOOD NOTE THEY PAYED FOR THE ONE NIGHT THAT THEY MOVED US. THE REST OF OUR STAY THERE WAS JUST FINE. THE BREAKFEST GETS BETTER EVERY YEAR.

We stayed on the 6th floor this year, and the only complaint from my perspective was the price being increased from the original booking. But that was soon forgotten for our room was fuckin perfect. Nice size and setup, a kitchen with a fridge, a decent sized bed (and a sofa bed as well). Our friends on the second floor had an even nicer room, but it sucked for them being chain smokers in a smoke-free room. Our room was smoker friendly, and when drunkenly venturing the 7th floor, it looked like a castle compared to the other floors. Compared to last year's shitty hotel, this was such a pleasant experience, and it really helped being less than 5 min walking distance to the venue. And their breakfast was wonderful too! :)

Hey Infinite-dreams how was your ride home? I will see at the Opeth concert!! I will wear some kind of Progpower shirt so you know what to look for. I was actually of thinking of making a shirt that says Dolamite Motherfucking Biffle on it descending down the front, so that way everyone knows of my glory. LOL!!!

the new Cooper is great. it has a lot of really hooky songs and some 'Alicesque' stuff to scare ya. Eric Singer is playing drums, Damon Johnson ex Brother Cane is playing on a few tracks. Alice has really been consistant these last three or four albums....i recommend it!
