So, earlier this week I went to a thing at VINTAGE KING in Nashville where Ross Hogarth pretty much demo'd some RETRO gear, the STA-LEVEL comp/limiter, 176 comp, 2A3 pultec style eq, and the Powerstrip.

He had a bunch of sessions with raw tracks and just fed them through the hardware via inserts on Protools. We were listening through Guzauski-Swist GS-3A monitors.

Just wanted to make a post to note how fucking rad this shit was. We listened most to a vocal take that was already stellar from a performance standpoint - a neo-soul singer that kicked ass - but there were some bits that poked out just a bit too much. Running the track through the sta-level or176 was a fucking killer experience. It not only got things leveled out but it just thickened up the vocal perfectly.

Then he pulled up a Van Halen session and showed the RETRO gear on bass tracks and some of Eddie's guitar tracks. Once again, this shit just took the tracks to a new fucking level.

I am a believer.

If you have a chance to get some hands on with this stuff, don't hesitate to check it out, I loved it!

Also gotta give props to Vintage King for putting this event together FOR FREE and then even having beers and snacks for free. Dudes fucking rule and I really with I had enough income to buy some of this stuff from them!
