RIP Morbid Angel 1984-2003

Did I not say this album would suck?
I believe I did.

Hate on formulas again and I'll take a fly swatter to your face. >:{

Nice, now all you diehard MA fans can feel what it was like when Kenose and Grand Declaration of War were released :)

For me MA have been stone dead since Domination, and even that one sounded half-hearted to me. Gateways was a notable exception, I thought that was an attempt to go back to the roots. It was no Altars by any stretch of the imagination. This however, is obviously going to blow chunks.

Every album/release you just mentioned is fantastic. (except domination, it's good, but not fantastic)

Not a very optimistic review in fairness but I'll still buy it. I'll reserve judgement till I hear it myself but only 6 death metal songs does not make an album and I am anxious to hear it (been a MA fanboi since 1990). Their last moment of greatness was Formulas and theire very best are A,B & C in that order. They lost the crown to Behemoth years ago.

Even Heretic sounds like it'll be better than this album. So apparently Nevermore is the only 'metal' track written by Trey? This is indeed likely going to suck.

Well there are 6 metal songs, two of which were written by Thor...

Trey has written 4 songs since Heretic!
And also, mixing metal with electronic music is not new or exciting.
I guess the rumors about Trey not really giving a shit any more were true...

Morbid Angel meets a Rammstein-type sound, definately going to be an industrial album. You'd never know though, could be cool. Some industrial music isn't half bad. I think Morbid Angel were always more than just a Death Metal band, they just transcended that genre completely since BATS. And I remember Blessed got fuckin slated when it came out because of the classical influences, Covenant got hammered as did Domination and in this day and age they are considered the band's classic material. I've a feeling that it is either going to be amazing or complete pretentious shit. There will be no middle ground with this one.

If I was Trey and David Vincent had just re-joined, I can't say I'd have much hope for the band either.

Seriously, just to rub it in and be a smug wanker about it: I fucking called it.

Oh yes, this album will suck. Haven't heard one song yet but I can tell this album is going to suck because of this guy's opinion.

I'll take the beating. I think Rutan know's what he's doing and it'll be well produced. They have a long discography of solid DM to fall back on and one foray into industrial isn't necessarily the end.

Altars, Blessed, Domination, Gateways all fucking great albums. Formula sounded like badly done Cannibal Corpse to me. Production was bad on it. Might as well be early Mayhem tapes to my ears. Only songs I can stand on that album are Heaving Earth and Nothing is Not.

Have you read the fucking song titles?
If they made such a terribly decision regarding those, then it's not much of a leap to fear that they music, or at least some of it, could be as bad...

I'm not saying every single second is going to be shit, however I am seriously worried about the album as a whole...

All I know is I fucking love Zyklon, so I have some faith in Destructhor

EDIT: Make that "loved", I was wondering why I hadn't heard anything about 'em for awhile

Samoth announced they split up in early 2010 I think, but they had been on hiatus since 2007. Pity, I loved the industrial elements and nice soloing they threw into the otherwise "standard" blackened death metal. Samoth is now playing with The Wretched End. Dunno what Trym's up to though, that guy's a pretty underrated blaster imo.
