Ripping audio for Sample use

Hey I was wondr'n how you all rip samples off of a DVD or the web from video.

I just plugged a doubled ended 1/8 cable with one end plugged into a 1/8-1/4 inch adapter and plugged that into my pre.

Is there a better way to do this or can this hurt me somehow?

It worked and all I just wanna know how everyone else does it.

In some hosts if you import the video file it will toss the audio on a seperate track in your DAW and from there you can do what you want with it.

if you can route audio internally you can record it in Audacity, thats what I've done.

just select 'Stereo Mix' in the windows recording mixer and press play

Well since we're of course talking about ripping audio from a DVD/Video that the OP produced himself I'm sure there are no legalities involved......
