Rock Harvest

Hey Rob,

At least I assume it is you. First of all, welcome to Ultimate Metal and to the ProgPower USA forum! It really is a shame things are falling apart there, but I hope it still works out for you guys. Man, you have been playing a lot!

I had planned on taking the whole family to Thursday night, but I'm not so sure now. Though it is always good seeing Keith and Mystic Force. They haven't dropped off yet that I am aware of.

Rick

Yeah, it's me. I haven't seen such vitriol spewed at a single show before(I don't know either side of the story so I'm in no place to judge), figured I'd try and post our material since so many people claim they haven't heard of any of the bands. Yeah, this is our first real tour I've booked, Rock Harvest will be right after our first Chicago gig so we're hoping a decent number of people come out to the festival to the show since Chicago is going to take a lot out of us. Looking forward to playing December 13 with you dudes, the lineup is looking good!

I also lol'd really hard.

what is your point? Just more people talking smack .. those that haven't been to Rock Harvest before have no clue, people who are ticked and want to blame someone ... so who gets the wrath of it ? the promoter , the one who is trying to fix something that was / is out of his hands, how is he to know the BIG backer would back out of this.. hence leaving everything for him to pick up .. so much for trying to do a good thing, good cause .. such a shame people who have absoultely no clue .. :(

I will be there as every year in the past that I have attended ..

I think asides all the bad moves he has done for this year the kicker is all the bands lined up and one major one "locked in as an exclusive" for next year when we all know there wont be a next year. These guys took the crown for mess ups I think. Really curious to hear how this years goes.

Apologies, the other 2 events that has been done ... it was named Fallen Blue prior year, then had Rock Harvest later that same year .. ( changed name )

and as in the past he always has worked into the future quickly this is nothign new, I personally agree with you guys why are you doing next year when this years hasn't even been done yet, however I can vouch in honesty that promoter has done this in the past trying to keep it exciting I suppose ?

It's a shame transportation backer had to back out, or else you all would be having a blast as I will .. But understandable if you do not want to attend since your fav band will not be there.. The bands who aren't expecting pay and konw that this cause is a great one will still be in attendance and I applaud them for this.

Jeremy and Justin -
I will have Girl Scout Cookies to sell come January!!!!!!!

Bob - I am sure they are announcing bands for next year only to try to establish some sort of cred and to make people want to support this year so that they can see some amazing bands next year.

I believe the intentions were good.
I think they were a bit naive to think that by promoting it as a "charity" event that people would rush and buy tickets in advance.

While this lineup was indeed solid, it wasn't one where anyone with any interest in going had any risk of it selling out.

Rome wasn't built in a day. Their aspirations were too high off the bat.

We will never truly know, but I wonder if the higher tier bands waved their performance fees in support of the charity.

I keep hearing this "good cause" tag line; please explain how a off duty police officer and his family is any more deserving than say a maintenance, construction worker, or HR person who dies outside of there job. Maybe a bunch of HR guys should set up a charity for their families.
Seriously this "good cause" is made to sound like there is something that sets cops apart and makes them more special and deserving than other people. I could almost buy into this "good cause" concept more if it was for cops who died while on duty, then again they were doing their fuckin job that they get paid for.
Certainly it is terrible if a police officer dies, but it is terrible if anyone does. Just because someone is a cop that makes it no different. If my brother (who is a detective) is killed on duty it would certainly suck but he DID choose to take that risk. I don't understand where the idea comes from that people doing the job they signed up for and get paid for makes them some kind of hero.
Yeah I know I'm a dick for thinking this way or whatever because death and certainly death of a symbol like a police officer is a taboo subject for most people. Not to mention that most people simply hear the word charity and they are automatically drawn in without putting any thought into it, that is why so many people have fuckin meaningless ribbons on their cars and why breast cancer is the most popular cancer out there.
Let's also be honest here, people bought tickets (a product) to see those bands announced and without that no one would have given money to this charity. A "good cause" did not sell those tickets People, certainly in America don't typically tend to be charitable, they need something in return even if it is just a bumper sticker. Ticket buyers aren't being charitable they are being consumers, the only parties charitable here are the promoters if they in fact donate the profits made. Selling a product to raise money for the charity is merely marketing. And to expect a band to fly across the country to play without being paid even if it is for a charity is also asking a lot, it is not like these bands are Bono, they all have day jobs and need to make money. So to suggest that the bands are being unreasonable and they should do it anyway because it is a "good cause" is asking a lot.

Well, did you start with, "Hey, if you get your mom to pre-order the WITCHES MARK CD, I will gladly buy some cookies from you" :)

Should have done that.
Jamie ordered a few boxes but I never knew what she ordered. Well the girls brought them by the apartment and Jamie was not in so I paid for them. When Jamie comes home she informs me that she did not order all of those boxes that girls had just unloaded on me.
I did wondered why all the girls were giggling as they ran off.:err:
Girl Scouts is merely a training organization to teach little girls to become the evil women they will one day grow up to.

J. Golden- You ask why charity for police officers ?? well.... this is for police officers killed outside the line of duty, meaning those who commit suicide from stress of the job, seeing others killed , having to kill others etc.... just as the military people who suffer from PTSD .. from being in war.. I am assuming that you are not aware of any of this ? That you have never heard of the mental issues that go along with the job of being a police officer / firefighter / military ?? It screws some people up in the head.. go to www.fallenblue.org and read some of the stories from the families of these people.. Every year several of the families attend and even get a chance to speak at the event .. make yourself aware ..

I personally have watched Dream Theaters video - and think you should as well it may help explain some things .. " The Enemy Inside" Although, this is only showing what soldiers go through , however so do police officers , and firefighters as well

But that is their job, they knew the risk when they signed up. I still don't see how it is different from anyone else who might kill themselves after the stress from their job. Let's say a social worker kills themselves because they get depressed over all the abuse and tragedy they see, would this be different? Seriously what the hell do they expect, certainly it would be a stressful job, but if people can't handle it then get a different job...same with soldiers. I find it difficult to have sympathy for those who chose to do what they do.
I'm not saying that I cannot appreciate what these persons do, that is not my point at all. And certainly an off duty policeman who stops the bad guy and saves a life would certainly be a hero just has much as anyone in that situation. However if something happens on the job or related too well that is what they get paid for.
Point is, a cop dealing with work related stress is no different than anyone else. Perhaps the stress is caused by a different source and arguably could be more stress, but it IS their job to deal with.

lol! How did I guess? You are definitely the one that promotes this band - good job!

Well, you have to understand that we are all spoiled by how well ProgPower USA runs year after year. To be honest, there is simply no comparison - not even close - as to how the two festivals are run. You should really get your ass down to Atlanta to see what this is all about! Your mind will be blown and you will see how it is supposed to be done. Sure, we have lost band's in the past, but I don't think it has ever been more than two in a single year AND it is always well-communicated and they are replaced with other awesome bands. The venue is awesome, the sound and stage are awesome -- hell, the whole damn thing is awesome!! And that stage right guitar tech... LOL!!

Seriously though, you and the rest of Aries should make the trip down next September. It will be a show to remember. Don't wait too long - tickets are going fast!

Good luck on your show in Chicago. That should be fun for you guys. And I am definitely looking forward to the 13th of Dec. in Baltimore! :kickass::kickass:

I do have to say that I am surprised that anyone would ever question the importance of police officers and the EXTREME risk they endure in their jobs day after day. Not something I ever want to do. I am just glad there are others crazy enough to be willing to put on a bullet proof vest and put themselves in the line of fire. WAY more difficult and important than running a label.
