rock mix (think social distortion meets velvet revolver)

That mix sounds awesome! I really like the drum sound a lot. Only thing I would do is turn down the low end on the bass just a tad, it's sticking out a little too much. Really good job though

thanks a lot for the comment:) I'll try to lower the DI track, which I'm using for subs only, or perhaps raise the highpass freq on the bass mic.

some info on the drums:
kit was a tama rockstar 4 piece
kick skin was remo powerstroke 3, miced from inside with a D112, around the center of the drum
snare was a tama too, didn't come with the kit i believe, metal anyway, 14 x 5,5, pretty old coated ambasador on top, miced with a 57 on top and a 906 on bottom
racktom was actually from another kit, cause his own sounded like shit. we used a mapex 12" with evans EC2 on top, miced with a 904
floortom was a 16" tama, pretty old powerstroke on top, miced with a 904
-2 OH's used (NT1000) and a ride bottom (57)

nothing special really

the more interesting thing, and probably more important for this sound where the room mics
i used 2 NT1's in the far corners from the kit, aimed at the corner of the walls (away from the kit), about 70 cm hight and about 70 cm from the wall, inverted the phase, ran them into a stereo bus and compressed them pretty much :)

thanks man:) working on a second version right now

things I'm changing:
-taking out some lows on the bass
-bringing up the guitars a tad
-bringing down the vocals a bit, i think they stood out a bit too much
-giving the solo a bit more low mids too take the place of the leadvocals better

yeah, i've been listening it through and thought the exact same! i'll suggest it to the band on sunday, get rid of a little click and add some lows

bass is a '78 fender jazz, strings were almost as old as the bass! amp was my Orange AD200 MKIII into my '80's Gallien Krueger 4x10, had sansamp blended in a little to tighten in up a bit (blend was at 10:30 o' clock ish), recorded the sansamp and a D112 om the cab. used the sansamp for the lows only, highpassed the D112 at 100 Hz and just some slight eq to fit nicely in the mix
