Hey guys, Thinking about shelling out for one of these (for a bit of a mess around first of all, but looks like the can aid amazing ly for composition speed).

Ideally, i want a GK-3 pickup, but im not sure it will go straight to my computer. It appears to have a 13 pin out, whereas MIDI i think was 5 pin. I want to avoid buying an expensive box, so (the unit is £300) when i can trigger it via VST basically. I thought maybe a convertor cable, but i guess that wont work.

Any suggestions for pickups that go straight to a midi in? Or is this not possible?

Thanks for any help!

Cheers

Kev :)

You need Roland's GI-20 or (I recommend) Terratec's Axon AX-50. A GK-3 pickup doesn't convert anything, it's really 6 little pickups, 1 pickup per string. The above mentioned pitch to MIDI converters are made for that purpose. They only convert and send out a MIDI signal USB and MIDI out, they don't have a build in synth module or anything.

I have some extensive experience with guitar synths and Axon is the way to go. A bit faster and more accurate tracking then Roland's series.

That's the model I own, same tracking quality but with some onboard sounds (which kinda suck) but doesn't have a USB to MIDI connection. Of course it does have normal MIDI out.
