i have a really small dead room, and can achieve this sound its all about the ambience you add and depth you create

nice sound im feeling the vibe with the room up

Thanks guys, we didn't record that in a studio, it was all my gear and some of a friend's gear (which is good indeed), and the room was a big dancing room we had for a weekend. Quite funny lol.

Here are some details :

Drum gear :

Kick = my Pearl Reference 22x18"

Toms = Tama Starclassic Performer

Snare = my SJC Custom Drums 14"x6,5"

Recording gear :

OH : AKG C414 TLII => Great River pre => Rosetta 800

Snare top : SM57 => Vintech X81 => Rosetta 800
Snare btm : SM57 => API => Rosetta 800

Kick : Audix D6 => API => Rosetta 800
Kick 2 : Subkick => API => Rosetta 800

Room 1 : Brauner Phantom => API => Distressor => Rosetta 800
Room 2 : Royer R121 => Purple Audio Biz => UA 1176 => Rosetta 800

Tom 10" : Beta98 => Mindprint DTC => MOTU 828
Tom 12" : Beta98 => Mindprint DTC => MOTU 828
Tom 14" : Beta98 => API => MOTU 828

Hihat : Shure SM7 => MOTU 828 (mic pre #1)

I applied some transient designing on the kick and room mics. I used Metric Halo Channelstrip to get the snare snap. There is also a tiny bit of Metric Halo compression on the drumbus to glue the elements. No compression on the kick drum/toms. I used a lot of Apulsoft Apeq plugin which is really amazing to shape a drum sound.

Man, Sly...amazing as usual! I really can't believe the sounds you get!!

Did you use any temporary acoustic treatment in the room you recorded in?

thanks
