I've noticed many people like this band much more than nevermore. honestly, i don't see anything special about it at all. i have refuge denied and the only 2 good songs on it are battle angles and die for my sins; everything else is just... standard in my opinion. anyway, just wanted to share that. your thoughts?

I like Sanctuary. And Into the Mirrow Black is definitely better than the first one though Refuge Denied has an all time favorite of mine: White Rabbit on it.

And I prefer Nevermore anyways... :)

I simply love Nevermore, but Sanctuary was/is a great band, too, in my opinion... I love "Refuge Denied" because Warrel's singing was simply divine on that album... (By the way, my favorite songs from that album are "Die for my sins" and "Veils of Disguise"...)

So, basically::) :) :) for Sanctuary...

I first heard Sanctuary in 1990 when a guy I had a class with in college told me I could have Refuge Denied on cassette. He said he thought the album was to "dark and evil" and "satanic"(he said "look at the cover") and that Warrel's voice was shrill like King Diamond. I told him to be open minded and that the more dark and evil the better. (I wonder what this guy thinks about DEICIDE, MORBID ANGEL, ETC.. if he thought Sanctuary was satanic.) I was hooked on Battle Angels, Die For My Sins, White Rabbit, and Veil Of Disguise, and thought Warrel had alot better voice than King Diamond. The other songs took awhile to get used to. Yes, I too think Into The Mirror Black is a better album, but both have dated lyrics(what releases in the late 80's early 90's don't) and I think Refuge Denied is classic. As for NEVERMORE, I believe this is a natural progression of what Sanctuary was. Warrel said NEVERMORE is how he always envisioned Sanctuary sounding. Other bands sometimes find their "sound" after a few albums. Look at Deicide, Slayer, Metallica (who have sold out), Testament, etc... The early releases by all these bands sound "raw", but are special in that this is were I first heard of these bands. Kill "em All is good, but in my opinion no Master Of Puppets. Same with Slayer, Deicide, and Testament. Haunting the Chapel is no Reign in Blood, Legion and Deicide aren't Once Upon the Cross or Serpents Of The Light, and the Legacy is no Practice What You Preach. But don't get me wrong, I love all the early stuff from these bands. When bands are young, it may take awhile for them to find their "niche". They know the general direction they want to go, but it may take awhile to fine tune their sound.

P.S. HAS ANYONE NOTICED THAT SANCTUARY AND NEVERMORE HAVE THE SAME NUMBER OF LETTERS IN EACH (9) COINCIDENCE, I THINK NOT

I'll give an example of "dated lyrics". In "Future Tense" the lyrics ask "what will the 90's hold?" This is not a bad thing to me, but it is the year 2001. Another example is from Megadeth's So Far, So Good,... So What? album during the song "Set The World Onfire" where the lyrics state "distorted figures walk the streets its 1989." Some people see this as a negative thing, but I don't. In the words of the infamous DAVID LEE ROTH, "It doesn't matter who wrote the song, what the lyrics are, or what key its in, just as long as it makes you feel good." By the way, No Exit is a superb Fate's Warning album. That is probably my favorite Fate's Warning release then Parallels, Perfect Symmetry, and Awken the Guardian.

The lyrics of Sanctuary then really showed a great progression in Power Metal lyrics for that time. Sanctuary were pioneers, like NVM are today. They were really huge!!!!
BTW, Zanex, how are you man???
Make an update...:heh:

I have just "Into The Mirror Black" and i think it's great!! Warrel has a very special voice! But i think Nevermore are much better!! "Dead Heart In A Dead World" is a masterpiece, definitely!! :hotjump:

"DHIADW" has Heavy guitars, powerful voice by Warrel...the music is also pretty technical, which i also like!! And the best of all, the feeling is there!
