So I just checked out this album Professor Satchafunkilis and the Musterion of Rock after the Coldplay scandal because I needed some riffs to steal, and I noticed that I like the guitar sounds.....A LOT.

Sounds fuckin juicy and thick but clear at the same time, and I'm not a HUGE Satriani scrotum so I don't know every deet about every album.

Is this a JSX? Seeing how it's 2008 released I'd assume maybe it is, but some people on here *cough*TASTIC*COUGH* claim the XSR is bootleg recorded. And Satriani could play whatever the fuck he wants on an album. Also I don't know if he's greasing the front end with some stompz or whjatnot.

Help a brotha out someone has to like this meedley meedley crap too hahah.

Thanks.

Hmm, listened to Andalusia and now Musterion - the tone I find to be extremely messy and fuzzy (not fizzy) with a fuckload of harmonic stuff that I guess is kinda cool but isn't my thing; I HIGHLY doubt this is just guitar --> JSX, he's gotta have some fuzz pedal or something going on in there (maybe that Satchurator signature pedal that was just released), though I guess the real question is: assuming this is a JSX, how much is it contributing to the sound? From my experience with the amp, I'd say somewhat, but not that much; a fuzz pedal through your 5150 would get you damn close I'd think, though I don't know much about getting this kinda tone, so maybe there's something else involved (besides his fingers, before some smartass chimes in with that one  )

Hhahah I was waiting for the tone is in the fingers speech too.

I guess, the tone is similar also to the solo tone on Buried in Oblivion by Into Eternity, where it has this glass/metallic kinda sound which is what like. Some of the solos on Doomsday also have this kinda sound (Hybrids) which is what lead to my JSX conclusion as part of the equation.

From what I recall hearing he goes absolutely nuts on things like wahs and comb filter pedals. On my much hated (and rightfully so) zoom pedal I've got this "Satch" setting which sounds like utter crap, but the comb filter wah pedal...thing...is kinda nifty. Scoops the ever loving crap outta the mids.

In fact the best metal tone I got out of that thing was taking Tweed model amp on the hi gain channel, crank the gain and added a comb filter set for low mids, then cab impulse. Worked so much better than any ENGL or Diezel preset.

he's gotta have some fuzz pedal or something going on in there (maybe that Satchurator signature pedal that was just released)

i know that for the recording of that album, or just before, satch was heavily using his then new, vox pedal for some drive tones, and i think that could be playing a heavy part on that album!

;)

He uses very nice pickups too, the jsx just loves mid output passives, makes it alot easier to dial in. It's as if the amp was designed with them! ;)

Lovin' slamming the blackouts/x2n into it though!

He also uses a metric fuckton of pedals. Octavias, fuzz/ringers etc. Also pretty sure he records with a palmer speaker sim and not cabbed up.
