This is so fucking cool!!!
Satyricon's live performance in Roskilde, Denmark ->
Norway's biggest newspaper gave them 6 out of 6 in score for
excellent performance, great sound etc!! Jackpot!

Here's a quick and rotten translation of a paragraph:

"I've never experienced the likes of such a metal attack in this
black Roskilde night. Nor Rammstein or Slayer even reached
Satyricon's heals during this years Roskilde festival. And already
by next year, Satyr and his friends ought to be moved to the
biggest scene!" (U know.. where the biggest bands play ;) )

The last comment in the article is:
"For your own good - go see this band, for Hell's sake!"

Victory!!

yeah satyricon where awesome, but i wouldn't give them a full score, they should have played some more older songs and epspecially some in norwegian, just mother north at the end wasn't enough, i would have wanted hvite krists död or du som hater gud. but it still was a great consert,
and i'm glad i made myself stand in the front and wait for 1.5 h :)

A Norwegian black metal band forsakes it's grim imagery for mainstream appeal, makes its music sterile electronic and releases a "hits" collection. It has record company for purpose of making money and making black metal mainstream, and signs only electronic techno black metal. It sells out true bands like Darkthrone, and makes them release "hits" collection, that includes songs from "Soulside Journey". It plays to huge throbbing crowd of teens in world's most popular pop festival, and gets a very good reception from mainsteam press.
"Cool".
I think not.
This is victory for mainstream music.
This is destroying black metal scene.

Do we need to say more?

yes man, you can write books about it, I'm on the place (oslo man, to set it straight) and don't blindly agree to all you will share ...
Espescially when your point is to defend Satyricon in critising me, for example, at the bottom.
I also apreciate such an (modern) album like Rebel E,
but not your loosers comments,
when I said that mainstream doesn't help the scene, read above,

You should really get a grip man! As far as I know the latest
Satyricon is damn aggressive and grim. hmmmm Yes, I did listen
to it last night with some ppl that like thrash etc and they thought
Rebel E was pure mayhem and chaos to them. And even though
not as harsh and cold as in the old days, it still possesses a lot of
good elements. Mayhem released a 'hits' collection very early on
in the form of a live record (u know which)... and tons of these after
that. (Emperor even got 5/6 in the same newspaper as they released Anthems.)

Emotion is something I have yet to find in Rebel E. The music has about as much passion as a shoebox. As somebody else put it, the music is so cold and calculated that Satyr probably thinks "Scientific evidence states this note should go here". Their image also speaks for this, with ugly modernism and symmetrical design. This is not necro, this is clinical.

You say that this destroys black metal. Well Satyricon is one of the
bands that made BM worth listening to. And like I said before, on
the latest Darkthrone there are MANY connections to Satyr(icon)
and the vox / riffs / prod even has a lot of Satyricon in them. I asked
myself several times if that was Nocturno or Satyr yelling. And
Fenriz too is in Eibon... with well-known Phil Anselmo.. so he is
really grim, ain't he? Anyhow - the new DThrone is NOT as grim
or mystic as the old stuff.. especially not like Under A Funeral Moon.

What part of "Moonfag sells out true bands like Darkthrone" didn't you get? Darkthrone turned to shit when they signed on to Moonfag. Panzerfaust and Total Death were bearable, but every release after that is worthless. Fenriz has betrayed scene, and turned to humanist values. Just read any recent interviews of Fenriz. I read one from Israeli zine! The same man who said stores that wouldn't sell Dthrone because they were jewish socialists, said he would like to play gig in Israel, and sends best wishes to his fans there. He also say he listen to trance music. This is very wrong. It would not be so bad if he always like this, but Fenriz was once very grim, now he is total betrayer.

I have no respect for Satyr. He spread slander against Euronymous. Another turncoat that jump on the Varg bandwagon to fame, and to get cheap shots at a man who always disliked him. This is not right. Satyricon try to split scene just like Varg. What Satyricon has done to scene is nothing compared to what they have done against it.

If you are interested, yes, I play in black metal band, several. This is not very serious thing, but I'm working on a demo with one of the projects, and promo pics should be taken next month. I will send you, if you are so interested. And I'm 17.

Yes, Satyricon's new material is much simpler/less emotional than their prior work. So? Maybe that's what they want. I heard their new track yesterday and, even if I was less than impressed, it's still a far cry from anything mainstream...

The "scene", as some of you people say, has been dead for almost 10 years now. Get a grip on reality and move on.

Is it my imagination or this discussion has gone a bit downhill these last few days? Ok, I may not be into black metal as many years as most of you guys but I think the only base for criticism concerning a band is their music and not how many records they sell or how many people attend to their concerts... I think you need to relax a bit... Personally I prefer what Fenriz says in his interviews now, than read once again about how true and evil black metaller he is (now you got me, I'm not evil enough). You should be more concerned with what they create and how true you are. I can understand if you don't like "Rebel..." or "666 International" but I think that the decision should be based on musical tastes and not on the fact that Satyr own Moonfog or I don't know what else. I'd like to think that people here were more openminded but I'm a bit tired of hearing the word "true" again and again. I'm not "true" and I never wanted to be. I may thing that Vikernes is an idiot but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy his music. I'd like to think that this subject is a joke (phyre did something similar in the opeth forum I believe) but if it's not I think you guys should reconsider your relationship with music. But then again I may not be evil and true enough to understand what black metal is all about....

That's just sad. Why do you need to resort to the "big brawny macho" threats to settle arguments. It just makes you look silly.

I laugh heartily at all posts about being true and selling out. Music and ideology make such a funny patchwork.

By the way, if there ever was a gay picture, it's the one with you in the Satyricon shirt. That is all.

Phyre, I'm a very open minded person, try to respect other opinions, but you really acting pathetic and ridiculous here.
Making a fool out of yourself. If you prefer to keep black metal scene pure, that you must isolate yourself, fine, DO IT, isolate yourself!!!...
This board is very open minded, but do not need people with such an ridiculous attitude.
You are definitively on a wrong place here, if you keep posting such crap...

*Morg actually dislike the word true, most intolerant word she knows about*

Why, thank you Morgana! I've got to sow my seeds of buffoonery somewhere!

My my, I must've posted as many times here yesterday as I have on the rest of the boards since april.

I think it's cool that Satyricon made it to the press, it's a far cry from old black metal press coverage about church burning's etc..
Never the less, it doesn't surprise me. Metal is here to stay, and with it a growing number of fans in all genre's. I think Moonfog has released some of the best.
As for Satyricon I think Nemisis Divina was the coolest album, and the poster that came with it is bad ass!

I don't know why I'm reading this, as I'm not a fan of Black Metal, but some of the posts here about selling-out and shit is laughable. It's the same stupid discussions that comes along in every forum that has something to do with metal. If yoy consider for example Satyricon sell-outs, then every fckn band that's not as hard as them must be sell-outs to, eh? I'm not entering a discussion about black metal, as I don't know enough about it, but I just wanted to say that just because a band changes their musical style, doesn't mean they're sell-outs. People who use that term is just whining, sad jerks.
