Scar Symmetry's Holographic Universe - Auto pitch anyone?

I think Dan Swano and Mikael Akerfeldt are the best singers ov all, but it´s just me

P.S.: IMHO, Christian tries to emulate Swano´s Edge of Sanity era

cheers

I guess the front vocal tracks are not over-autotuned (I can't hear anything) but with all the backing harmonies tracks, it gives an overall unreal perfection effect. So I guess the backing vocals tracks are autotuned or treated to death...

Am I the only who really doesn't like Scar Symmetry? I have several friends that are into them, and I've listened a fair bit to the Pitch Black Progress album but I just.. It's hard to describe, it's kinda like "metal by numbers". Like it has all the components to be awesome, but it just ends up sounding rather bland. With no real "riffs" sticking out, and the growls that sound pretty good yeah but doesn't punch you and eat your family like a death growl should. And he does sing like a pop singer, not like a real man-of-metal. Of course he sings really good, but it's to smooth. Atleast for me, I usually prefere my singers rusty and jagged.

I am listening to the "Holo.." album right now, and yeah it does sound better than Pitch, but it still sounds kinda bland. Like I'm not going to remember anything about it after it's over. I remember the first time I heard Nevermore, I didn't like them at all (I'm big fan now) but their sounds etched it's way into my head and I damn sure remembered them.

So yeah it's sounds good, but not much else. Anybody feeling me?

Same for me. Keep in mind this band is not about agression and brutality, despite the growls and some parts. It's about catchy songs with tons of melody.

It's not "riff-based" either. It's about songs, where keyboards/samples, riffs, singing have an equal role to play.

I think in general i love "riff-based" band with totally agressive vocals (which doesn't mean they can't be melodic sometimes), and Scar Symmetry is a whole different story, but it has badass songs with a badass production for it so it works for me.

It is very tough to gauge someones singing in a club tour situation. I imagine that SS wasn't getting sound checks (we usually didn't when we toured w/ katatonia) which often means that the monitor mix is horrible and only the best of the best can nail stuff when they can't hear themselves. Plus people get sick or just have bad nights. I'm not saying that was the case in Dallas, but I want everyone to take isolated experiences w/ a grain of salt.
