Hey folks, finally had time to put a mix together with the latest gear and stuff. Any comments would be appreciated as usual, still learning here more than most!

If anyone fancies putting a vocal over the top that would be swell too, Im thinking of trying to get someone to do one if possible! Sorry about the band choice, but it made for a good production excercise haha...

HAHAHAHHAA .. wtf was that HOHOHO hahaha ... loved that tone and the drums sound great.. drumkit from hell? samples?

the drum tone is great!

I'm not sure I dig the guitar tone that much... this is just my personal taste, but I think a bit less gain wouldn't hurt (maybe you're trying to replicate the BFMV tone, tho... but I haven't heard them much, so sorry if that was your objective)

great playing!

Thanks for listening guys :goggly:

@ elmoe - cheers for the compliment m8!

@ seizure - I spent a while trying to get the reverb right, as i really suck with reverb. I opted for a plate in the end with a little predelay to get it out the way of the verse and then it could have more time to show itself in the beatdown section like in the original.

@ Habsburgs - Its the homer harmonic lol :p

@ Wylie - thanks for listening mate! I dunno about that tho

@ Rex - I think listening back you maybe right with the guitars. This was pregain 3.5 with a little boost from the tubescreamer i have, but next time i may just take it down just a tad.

@ Dr - Thanks for taking the time also dude :kickass:

I'd look at maybe lessening the audible compression on those toms... that coupled with the triggered hits really dates it back to the 80s. Maybe a bit more prominence and punch/weight to the kick and snare for my taste. Also the rhythm guitars likely need some low mid cuts to work in an actual mix, and perhaps some high boosts to add some excitement. Just my opinion!

Ta for the listen lm and erm! I'll be sure to take those opinions into account. I still find that I have kind of overcrowing problems with the stuff I make, as i feel frightened to make cuts to the instruments. Basically, i hardly ever cut and thats something i need to work on a lot. Anybody got advice on where the most obvious collision courses are? Perhaps i shall start a thread on it :p

hey kev, the most obvious collisions would be in the rhythm guitars. You need to carve out the mids/low-mids a bit to create space for leads, vocals and ambience. You will find this way that your drums naturally sound more reverberant and you don't need to keep wetting them up to create depth.

I have the opposite problem to you actually. I tend to over-EQ everything. I want to have complete control of everything... and if I'm not happy with a single thing, I'll EQ the shit out of it until it falls apart, hahah. So I've been limiting myself by using 4-band EQs only as much as I can. SSL pack has helped so much there!

Cheers mate, that was quick! :kickass: I'll take a good look at that today. Ive been using a lot of EQ curve stuff to help guide me so far, which i guess is a good thing but not something that should be used religiously for sure!

Updated mix with moonlapses thoughts taken into account. Got rid of a fair chunk of low mids from the guitars, upped the bass a tinge and ive changed the kick. A slight reduction on the snappyness of the snare to bring some more of the cunk through. Havent touched the toms as yet though. I think the kick works better than the old on the intro especially. I was thinking of adding the quad tracked guitars back in as the beatdown is a little weak on guitars i reckon.
