I just layed down some drum and guitar tracks in logic and its a heavy song so it requires scream vocals, like that of Miss May I, TDWP, We came as romans, etc.
Well after about 5 minutes of doing it my throat was just killing me and it would honestly kill to keep going. is there a secret to screaming or do you just play through the pain?
-thanks

if you don't like that bands that's fine idc. any advice would help though. "your doing it wrong" doesn't really help much

"Your doing it wrong" [sic] is actually great advice, as it's telling you that the technique you are using, is wrong, therefore you should try a different one.

im able to create the right sounding vocals for what im doing it just hurts in the process. thanks for the Vid! very insightful

And yes, you must practice. Treat your voice like a muscle. Don't push too hard in the beginning. It's like a skinny guy lifting a small car if you push too hard. Over time, your voice will get used to it and therefore get stronger and stronger.

Drink more whiskey inbetween takes. Do a shot, scream your brains out for 30 seconds, do a shot and so on an so forth.

this makes sense thank you. i never thought of it that way

I think a mistake a lot of people make whether for screaming or growling vox is that they try to belt it out as loudly as possible. Granted, I'm not exactly a pro at this myself, but one thing I often hear from people that regularly perform harsh vocals is that you don't have to be loud - focus more on the sound than on the power. Let the mic do the rest for you. Again, I'm no expert, but this advice certainly helped me out.

^ This man speaks the truth. This is the secret to my success, it can be yours too, OP. Give 'er a shot!

so i realized the low pitched stuff and or growling dont hurt at all. its more the high pitched stuff that kills. i cant really figure a way to do the highs without it killin me, ill post a clip
